Today, Incredible Health released our 2024 State of US Nursing Report, with upcoming coverage from Bloomberg, Fierce Healthcare, Modern Healthcare, Becker's Healthcare, ABC News and more. Now in it's 5th year, we analyzed data from the 1 million US nurses on the Incredible Health platform, and surveyed over 3000 nurses, to better understand top challenges nurses face across the country. If your nursing churn rate is at or above 18% we should talk. When we speak to leadership teams we often hear very different turnover rationale than their own nurses cite in our exit interviews. Where leadership teams are often lead believe that nurses leave for higher pay, nurses state that unsafe labor loads/ understaffing, and unsupportive or toxic middle management are a primary culprit. We predict that the cost of not prioritizing systems and processes that target safe ratios and supportive culture- will continue to drive up the cost of care delivery as a large number of direct care nurses are set to age out of bedside care. A smaller pool of available staff will further stress safe labor loads and test the staying power of organizations that haven't prioritized a culture of treating nurses like the human capital and the right arm of healthcare delivery that they are. https://lnkd.in/e54AxWg5

Re-raising this article as we look toward another year of nursing shortages. Nurses are vital to improving quality and accessibility while trying to control costs. In the most successful practices, nurses work at the top of their licensing. But that isn’t the whole picture, and our nursing shortage is revealing the satisfaction and burnout issues nurses are facing.
