For this week’s #TipsandTricks, we are guiding you on how to use the fragrance wheel to find the notes that complement each other the best.    Much like the colour wheel, the fragrance wheel shows the relationship and similarities between different fragrance families. It divides scents into 4 main fragrance families – floral notes, oriental notes, woody notes, and fresh notes.     Each family has its own sub-family of notes. If sub-families are next to each other on the wheel, their scents usually go well together. For example, the woody and oriental notes.     You can also find good combinations by picking a sub-family and looking at the one directly across from it on the wheel, much like a matching game. Another trick is picking three sub-families to form a triangle on the fragrance wheel. Incense is a resinous material derived from various trees and plants. The word is derived from the Latin verb ‘incendere’ meaning ‘to burn’. The aromatic scent of resins, woods and floral materials has long been revered for its ability to create an atmosphere of tranquility and serenity. Many will confuse incense as a perfumery material with incense sticks which, although are linked, are not the same. In perfumery, Incense is most directly associated with Olibanum or Frankincense, however, is more commonly used as a collective term for various fragrance materials with balsamic, smoky notes. 🌶️ To complete an Incense aroma, these materials are often combined with various spices such as, cinnamon, clove or pepper, deep woods of guaiac wood or sandalwood alongside rich, sweet balsamic notes of benzoin or vanilla.
