Teamwork? Not just that. During the #induction at Pernod Ricard, we were taught some interesting lessons through games. 15 of us were divided into groups of two. On the white stand you see in the picture below, there were hooks. We were given four rings and asked to place the rings on the hooks. The higher you place them, the more points you get. As you can see, there was a huge gap between us and the white stand. You couldn't even throw the rings. The only solution was to lean. If you overstepped a line, you would be penalized. For leaning, you would need support. You had to lean in such a manner that you were just on one foot and tilted. It was ideally not possible without support. While leaning, there was a chance of falling if not supported. The whole point of the game was to teach us to TRUST that our friends/teammates/colleagues will support us while we accomplish the task. An interesting way to learn the importance of TRUST, isn't it? #internship #PernodRicard

Awesome session on Skills Based Hiring and Inclusive Hiring with SIM Seattle Chapter and Year Up last night in Fremont at FREMONT MISCHIEF INC with John Nelson Matt Rossmeissl Saben Emmons and Mj Jensen. Key Takeaways from the Panel: 1) Mentorship, mentorship, mentorship: Keola Ohumukini said it best in that the opportunity to be a mentor is a true privilege and mentoring others (especially those who have less advantage) is important for all of us. 2) Generational Change: The power of Year Up really rests with giving students a unique opportunity to experience tech or a more professional career versus retail or other hourly jobs that are accessible without a college degree. When a Year Up student is able to earn that higher income, higher skill job/career with benefits, we are changing the arc of their career and life and likely their parents and their children as well. Investing in and volunteering with Year Up is a tremendous opportunity. 3) Hands-on Education in IT: Both Mj Jensen & Saben Emmons said that they would have loved a program like Year Up to help break into the tech industry. Much of tech is learned on the job with the right attitude and life skills. Both MJ and Saben have built very successful careers with Expedia Group, Amazon, Bezos Academy and City of Kirkland without a college degree. 4) Get more than you give: Inevitably, Year Up interns are able to push the hiring organizations forward through exposure to diversity of thought, youth, and challenging the status quo. If anyone is interested in hosting a Year Up interns or volunteering with Year Up, please contact Carmen M. or Lisa Soboslai or Nina Gerber. Thank you John Nelson Keola Ohumukini and SIM Seattle Chapter for hosting!

As I wrap up my internship at Trilegal, here are a few things that helped me make the most out of it. ◾ Knowing your team well: Take an active interest in knowing each member of my team. Don't just approach them for tasks. Ask them about their experience and specific questions about their research approach. Each team member has valuable insights about the work and culture. That helps you understand the environment and prepare yourself to better assess tasks and deal with whatever comes to you. ◾ Take feedback: Take every chance to interact with your mentor/team member, where you can speak up about your opinion/perspective. Before submitting a research note, Could you share how you approached the task and your findings? This will allow them to understand your work methodology, and they will help you refine your thought process with their feedback/suggestions ◾ Ask for help: If you hit a wall while doing a task, Don't hesitate to ask your mentor/team members for clarification. Whenever you get a research proposition, ask as many questions as possible to narrow down your research's bounds. While researching, we primarily look into grey areas where we might need help finding clear answers. That's why you should always share your findings, even when you feel they are remotely related to get feedback that will further help you refine your research.

Get Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable This past week, Greif interns participated in a week-long immersive intern summit that provided an introduction to the company, the opportunity to network with many colleagues, and the ability to create meaningful connections with our fellow interns. Firstly, we appreciate the efforts of Tracy Studebaker and Michele Walker, along with countless others in both planning and investing in young talent throughout this summit. During an engaging session and presentation with Chief Human Resources Officer Bala Sathyanarayanan, we received exciting news: GREIF has been selected as one of Newsweek's Top 100 Global Most Loved Workspaces in 2024! Such an accomplishment hardly comes as a surprise, and it is largely due to GREIF’s unique culture. After diving deeper into our conversation with Bala Sathyanarayanan about the building blocks of what distinguishes GREIF, we want to take a moment to reflect on some of those remarkable highlights. During his presentation, Bala emphasized a people-first mentality through servant leadership aimed at serving others. Through this, we were introduced to six attributes of a highly valued intern: being a business person (no matter your role at the company), leaving your work better than you found it, having a bias for action and following through, being a change leader, being candid and to the point, and being a complex problem solver. Throughout our discussion, we reflected on the importance and impact of company culture, curiosity and exploration regarding our own work, and pushing the boundaries and expectations of our role. We also delved into the importance of candid and direct communication, and how we can evolve to become complex problem solvers. One key indicator stuck out to us that we wanted to expand on: having a bias for action and following through. To us, this means being consciously change oriented and proactive. It means putting yourself out there even if you are uncomfortable. It means constantly reflecting on our past, energizing others, and asking questions. After all, no question is a dumb question. The place where you improve the most is outside your comfort zone. Being an intern means not just clocking in and getting the job done; it's about pushing boundaries and exceeding expectations by keeping your focus on the bigger picture. The only way to move forward is to step away from comfort. That's what will truly make you stand out. And we are committed to doing just that. This post was made in collaboration with Jenna Floyd, Madeleine Bane, Katie Lucas, Reese Yankie, Oviyaal Kannan, Artem Lavrov, and Aditya Ramesh. #LoveWhereYouWork #Greif #InternSummit #MostLovedWorkplace

No one better to share your employee experiences… then your employee’s! This summer we gave our HR and Marketing interns a side project to create a short video showcasing their 10 week intern experience as part of our EVP efforts. And they delivered! Authentic, engaging and all created in the target audience tone of voice with limited budget. We will be using this as part of our recruiting efforts, grassroots efforts are sometimes the most powerful! Well done to the team behind this under Shannon Welch leadership Caitlin Motto Samantha Lubart Sarah Krohn Emily Petruccelli Emily Noonan Jared Reardon #evp #employervoice #employerbrand #interns #recruitmentmarketing #nylproud #newyorklife #newyorklifeinterns
