Work and rest aren't opposites; they're partners. You won't fully flourish until you can do both.
Alex Soojung-Kim Pang and Ivy House agree - resting is something we can practise and get better at over time.

Apparently you can't learn from sitting in your pyjamas in front of a Mac 🤔
Are you sure about that Lord Sugar? How about asking the people who:
💠 Are neurodiverse.
💠 Have physical limitations getting to, from and around the office or are reliant on mobility aids.
💠 Learn and create better when they're away from office distractions because they have the space to think clearly, innovate and problem solve at their best.
💠 Are introverted and re-energise and function more efficiently when they're not around too many other people.
💠 Have noticed an improvement in their mental/emotional health and subsequently their cognitive functions.
💠 Don't wear pyjamas.
To name a few!
He's not entirely wrong, plenty can be learned from interacting with
others but it's one learning style out of the many. This outdated notion that people can't learn whilst working from home is nothing shy of tosh and smacks of a disregard for inclusivity.
Other learning styles are available.
You might know a lot about business Lord Sugar but, sadly, you don't seem to know much about people.

🌟 Transforming Workplace Well-Being: Insights from Dialogue's 2024 Report
📉 With an average well-being score of just 49.4, it's clear that Canadian employees are facing significant mental health challenges, particularly among the younger workforce aged 20-29 (46.9).
🛌 Sleep and Physical Activity: Our findings reveal critical gaps in sleep quality and physical activity, with the lowest scores across all well-being dimensions. It's time to prioritize these areas to boost overall health and productivity.
🌱 Positive Change Through Healthy Habits: Excitingly, 71% of respondents embraced a new healthy habit post-assessment. This demonstrates the powerful impact of proactive well-being measures in the workplace.
💼 The Role of Employers: With 80% of employees advocating for employer-funded virtual care, it's evident that organizations play a pivotal role in enhancing access to mental health resources. Implementing such programs not only supports employees but also contributes to a healthier, more productive work environment.
🚀 Overcoming Barriers: Financial stress and long wait times remain significant barriers to accessing mental health care. As leaders, we must advocate for solutions that reduce these obstacles and foster a supportive work culture.

All of us have a story, but how often do we take the time to listen to someone else's? As we navigate through our busy lives, it can be easy to "hear" someone's words without truly being present in the moment. However, taking the time to listen and show that you care can make all the difference. Did you know that 55% of communication is actually conveyed through physiology or energy? So the next time you're having a conversation, take a moment to be fully present and listen. You might be surprised at how much you learn and how much the other person appreciates your undivided attention. #communication#listening#energy#presence#employeeexperience#hr
We've all seen this I'm sure from the BBC. At the time is was the talk of the country! I have to say it's one of the most heart warming and funniest things I have seen on a news report. This should be normal and not unusual to talk about. It's an example of the start of change! No need for any apologies at all.
Whether it's the kid or the cat, the partner or the colleague, when working it should be normal to have a bit of your home life on display to others. These are the realities of life. I would even say - does the reporter even need to be wearing a suit for his report from home?
Flexible Working should mean:
- wear pretty much whatever you want that is appropriate casual for the business
- work from wherever you want,
- work the hours you want, as long as you meet your KPIs,
- don't take the mickey but work productively in a comfortable environment
- be flexible for your boss and your boss will be flexible for you too (communication and flexibility is two-way)
- both parents should be able to work from home at times, or a coffee shop, or anywhere in the world
- touch base with your team regularly, communicate, cooperate and work productively in hours that work for you but also for the business needs
- for roles that need someone in there can be other flexible methods on time off, shift patterns, job share, pay in lieu, etc, whatever is right for each employee and the employer to work towards what the business needs to grow.
A two-way approach is the future of flexible working for all ages and stages.
