What an incredible end to the summer! It’s always a rare treat when our globally-dispersed team can meet up in person. This week, consultants Noura Amkieh - Licensed Psychologist and Arianna Dini finally had the chance to connect face-to-face in London, where they shared a meaningful dinner they discussed their work in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in the Middle East, shared their experiences with postgraduate studies across different countries, and explored the insights therapy can offer on armed conflicts and political debates—areas in which both excel. Grateful for these moments of collaboration and connection! #Teamwork #GlobalCollaboration #MentalHealth #MHPSS #MiddleEast #PostgraduateStudies #ConflictResolution #PsychosocialSupport #GlobalConsulting #WomenInConsulting #ProfessionalGrowth

#MHPSS is not a sector. It is an approach - a way of designing and implementing aid and development across all sectors that incorporates six core principles: 💪 Human Rights and Equity 🤝 Participation 🛑 Do No Harm 🛠 Building on Available Resources 🌐 Integrated Support Systems ⛰ Multi-layered (MHPSS) Responses 👉 (See IASC 2007, pp. 9-12 https://lnkd.in/eguvcTpz) If we do these well across all sectors - in other words, if we do aid well - the mental health and well-being of those we work with can be dramatically improved, with those improvements sustained by the communities themselves. Within the spectrum of multi-layered MHPSS responses (see Intervention Pyramid in the IASC 2007 resource) - there ARE also specific MHPSS interventions - from clinical mental health to structured psychosocial support to focus on strengthening the coping capacities within families, schools and communities, etc. Each of these areas are important. When considering #postgraduate #education or training in MHPSS, finding the right 'fit' is important. The focus of the Institute for Global Health and Development, QMU is on community-based #psychosocial #support, #scalable interventions and strengthening the existing coping capacities of individuals, families, peers and communities in a way that is contextually appropriate. 🙏 We emphasise #localisation, #gender transformative principles, #conflict sensitivity/peace-building, #faith sensitivity, #disability inclusion and #capacity focused engagement. 🌍 We primarily focus on work with individuals who are marginalised, displaced (e.g. #refugees), conflict affected and/or those living in low and middle income countries (LMICs) with fragile systems. 🚦We also provide 'practical' skills training in project design and #management and monitoring and evaluation. The masters is tailored around a #global #health and #development educational foundation, offering several pathways for career progression, particularly within I/NGOs, the UN and in academia. If this sounds like a fit for you, there are still some spaces remaining to start your Masters with us in September 2024. Have a question? E-mail us today at: IGHD@qmu.ac.uk or Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/emW748Ui For further studies in clinical mental health or counselling, check out the separate counselling masters programmes at Queen Margaret University or programmes at one of our fantastic partner institutions within the tropEd Network across 19 countries. All the best on your journey and do reach out if we can be of support.

⭐We’re pleased to feature Romy Lee as one of our #HumansofPAPSN.⭐ Romy is a Youth Lived Experience Delivery Manager at The University of Auckland, and was one of our speakers at the March Speaker Series. Romy shares her 'why' and what PASPN means to her. 🤗 ❓𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒖𝒑 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒆? Having a lived experience of journeying through the mental health and addiction system, I wanted to use the challenges and learnings of my experiences to influence change for a greater Aotearoa. Seeing how hard my public sector colleagues work to improve services particularly for young people experiencing mental distress, inspired me to join the workforce. I feel very fortunate that I’m able to give back to a community that means so much to me. 💟 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝑨𝑷𝑺𝑵 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖? PAPSN provides a safe space for people who whakapapa to Asia to share their learnings, make connections and support each other to dream and grow in the public sector. Through being part of PAPSN, I have made many connections that bring value to both my personal and professional life. 💭𝑨𝒏𝒚 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝑨𝑷𝑺𝑵 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚? Your unique perspectives are incredibly valuable. Keep finding ways that you can shake up the status quo, and speak up for the things that are important to you. We can’t do this on our own, but when we band together, and journey forward, we can make things truly incredible. #Asian #publicsector #publicservice #mentalhealth #youth
