🤔 What does it really take to transform secondary education? After years in curriculum development and classroom teaching, I've learned that isolated initiatives rarely create lasting impact. Earlier this week I spoke with The Educators' Lab co-founder Darcy Bakkegard, whose concept really got me fired up. 🌱 Their organization's four-pillar approach understands something crucial and fundamental: meaningful change requires an ecosystem of mutually reinforcing elements. 🤝 Through their transformative model combining micro-grants, professional development pathways, strategic partnerships, and intentional storytelling, they're creating the conditions for genuine transformation. They recognize that empowering teachers as #changemakers must happen alongside broader systemic change--you can't have one without the other. We need to give teachers the agency and psychological space to take risks, and we need our schools of education to encourage collaboration in the teaching profession. We need to showcase for the public what amazing work our teachers are really doing so that parents and kids (future educators!) recognize the profession's value. And we need to create and maintain strategic connections to sustain change. ⭐ This layered approach is essential. The Educators' Lab is demonstrating that when we simultaneously nurture teacher creativity, build supportive structures, and reshape narratives about education, we create the momentum needed. 🎯 And we improve the lives of the people at the center: kids and teachers. This is exactly the kind of bold, systemic thinking our field needs. Go check them out! #rethinkhighschool #SchoolReform #EducationalLeadership Michelle Blanchet

📚 Critical Pedagogy & Equity: Are We Truly Centering Students? "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education." – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In education, we often talk about equity, inclusion, and student success, but are we actually empowering students to think critically about their world, or are we just making them compliant learners? Critical pedagogy, championed by thinkers like Paulo Freire and Bell Hooks, pushes us beyond just delivering content. It asks us to help students challenge systems, question norms, and see themselves as agents of change—not just passive receivers of knowledge. 🔹 Equity isn’t just about access; it’s about transformation. 🔹 A culturally responsive curriculum isn’t enough; we must create space for student voice and real-world engagement. 🔹 If students aren’t questioning, analyzing, and advocating, are we truly educating them—or just training them to follow directions? As educators and leaders, we must ask ourselves: 💡 Are we giving students the tools to navigate and challenge an unjust world? 💡 Are our schools reinforcing existing power structures, or creating a culture of critical thinking and empowerment? 💡 What does equity in practice actually look like in our classrooms? Drop your thoughts in the comments! Let’s discuss how we can move beyond performative equity and truly transform education. ⬇️ #Education #CriticalPedagogy #EquityInEducation #StudentVoice #EdLeadership #CulturallyResponsiveTeaching #MLK

The Art and Science of Teaching 🎨🎨 Teaching is more than a profession it’s a dynamic blend of art and science. It’s about mastering the science of pedagogy while embracing the art of connecting with students on a personal level. In every lesson, there’s an opportunity to spark curiosity, cultivate creativity, and instill confidence. It’s not just about what students learn but how they learn encouraging them to ask questions, think critically, and believe in their potential. The classroom is where dreams take root, and as educators, we have the unique privilege of nurturing them. Every challenge we face is a step toward growth for both our students and ourselves. Let’s continue to innovate, inspire, and transform futures. #EducationMatters #TeachingWithPassion #FutureLeaders #LifelongImpact

As the school year ramps up, we’re facing problems that continue to plague our community: ESSER funding is phasing out, teachers are burned out, and far too many students can’t read or do math on grade level. Make no mistake: this is a crisis. In the midst of all this, The Oakland REACH has built the Liberator Model — an intervention solution that’s innovative, addresses rampant crises, and brings parents and caregivers into the solution. We know high-dosage tutoring works, which is why we’ve also built REACH Way Institute and Implementation so leaders can learn how to improve outcomes for students across the nation. But just learning isn’t enough. We have to be READY to do the work. What does readiness look like? Read more about REACH Way Insititute and Implementation, including our readiness criteria, on our website: https://lnkd.in/gH6pX4dY If you want to improve outcomes for students and families, ask yourself an important question: are you ready?

In schools, we talk a lot about growth, achievement, and outcomes. But beneath all of that, one of the most powerful forces in education is hope. Today, I had the privilege of speaking with staff about the culture of learning and teaching and the vital role that hope plays in our work. Hope is what keeps students striving when learning feels hard. It’s what fuels teachers to go the extra mile, even in challenging times. It’s what drives school leaders to make decisions that build a better future for every child. Hope isn’t just optimism—it’s actionable belief. It’s knowing that with effort, support, and opportunity, things can improve. That’s why the best schools don’t just equip students with knowledge; they empower them with the confidence and resilience to shape their own futures. As educators, we have the privilege and responsibility to cultivate hope in every classroom. Because when students believe in themselves, when teachers feel supported, and when communities invest in education, the possibilities are endless.

As school administrators, we have the power to make a lasting impact on our educators. One way to truly appreciate and recognize their hard work is by celebrating their stories and contributions to student success. ✨Here’s a simple yet powerful tip: Feature one educator each week throughout November, highlighting their inspiring story, dedication, and the positive impact they have on students. Not only does this boost teacher morale, but it also creates a culture of recognition that can inspire others. By shining a spotlight on educators, we show them that their efforts are valued and appreciated. Take the time to acknowledge their commitment to make a difference! #TeacherAppreciation #SchoolLeadership #EducatorImpact #GratitudeInEducation #SpringfieldLearning
