I was recently asked what qualities I look for when I’m hiring into customer facing roles, as it turns out, I only have three non-negotiables. ☑ Smart ☑ High EQ ☑ Self-Starter So, why those three? For me, smart is synonymous with a learning and growth mindset. I don’t need or want every member of my team to want to grow into a VP or C level in their career, but I do need and want EVERY member of my team to want to be better tomorrow than they were today. People who approach their work and their customers with a curiosity and true desire to learn new things are going to be more adaptable, better navigate the change that is inherent in software, and be a more valuable asset to their customers, their colleagues, and their company. Customer Success is a hard gig, there’s no two ways about it. Not every conversation with customers, or even internally, is going to be an easy one. (Look for a future post from me on the art of saying “No”). High empathy is critical to navigating tricky situations well, and makes everything easier. Your customers and your coworkers need to trust you and like you before you can get into the actual work of your job. Customer Success is not the place for people who need micromanagement. There, I said it! If a CX professional is doing their job well, they’re doing most of it without a lot of input or involvement from other team members at their company. So much of the work is representing the company on their own, that they need to have self-motivation and the ability to identify what their day should look like and where they should spend their time. What about you? What do you look for as your non-negotiables for your teams? *********************************************************** Hi, I’m Jennifer. I’m passionate about building amazing teams, enabling high growth startups, and delivering a customer experience so intentional and world-class that it becomes a differentiator for our customers. We all want to hire talent that goes above and beyond for our customers. These are three questions that help us, no matter where they sit in the organization: ⭐️ “Is there anything about our customer base you’d like to comment on?” This shows that they’ve done their homework. ⭐️ “Tell me about a big customer-related win at a past job.” It shows the candidate has thought of customers in their own way. A people-focused candidate might say, “We used to send a company-wide Slack celebrating every new customer win.” ⭐️ “How did customers impact your last role?” An engineer should be able to answer this from the work and conversations they saw around them, even if they weren’t directly involved. Customer centricity isn’t just for the sales and customer success team — it’s for everyone. #customersuccess #culture #leadership

🌟 Why Empathy is Non-Negotiable for Product Managers and Recruiters 🌟 Empathy is often seen as a nice-to-have skill, but for "product managers" and "recruiters," it's essential. Here’s why: ### 🔑 For Product Managers: As a product manager, your role goes beyond just developing features—solving real problems for users. Empathy allows you to: - Understand customer pain points: Truly connecting with your users' challenges helps you design products that genuinely improve their lives. - Prioritize effectively: Empathy enables you to weigh customer needs against business goals and make the most impactful decisions. - Drive collaboration: When you understand the perspectives of your team—designers, developers, stakeholders—you can communicate better and create more aligned products. In short, empathy helps product managers craft user-centred solutions that are not only functional but meaningful. ### 🔍 For Recruiters: Empathy in recruitment is the difference between filling a role and changing a career. Recruiters with empathy: - Build deeper connections: They listen carefully to candidates' needs, goals, and aspirations, creating a personalised recruitment experience. - Find the perfect match: By understanding both the candidate's and employer's perspectives, empathetic recruiters make placements that benefit both parties long-term. - Enhance candidate experience: Empathy ensures candidates feel valued, respected, and heard throughout the hiring process, making a positive impression of the company. A recruiter’s ability to empathize directly impacts talent retention and employer brand—making it not just about finding talent, but building relationships. In both roles, empathy fuels success. It empowers "product managers" to create solutions that resonate with users and helps "recruiters" build lasting connections that drive organisational growth. Let’s not underestimate the power of empathy—it’s a game-changer in building products, teams, and companies that thrive. #EmpathyMatters #ProductManagement #Recruitment #UserCenteredDesign #PeopleFirst #Leadership #CareerGrowth #Linkedin #Linkedinconnections #VikrantG
