Tomorrow night, our Project Advocacy Committee will score 211-281 River Oaks Parkway,  a 737-unit development proposed for a 9.7-acre site in San Jose. Valley Oak Partners’ proposal for 211-281 River Oaks Parkway comprises three residential areas. Area one is 100 market-rate 3-story townhomes ranging from two to three bedrooms. The second area is a single affordable apartment building for large families totaling 132 units. The last area is a 7-story market-rate, 505-unit apartment complex. Tomorrow night, Irvine Company will present Santa Clara Park, a five-building, 1,792-unit market-rate apartment community, to our Project Advocacy Committee. Santa Clara Park is located just east of Mission College and north of a completed Irvine Company project called Santa Clara Square. The project redevelops a 25.74-acre office park, replacing it with 1,740,000 sq. ft. of residential space, 4,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, and a new 6.4-acre public park. Thank you to SVCN and Thrive Alliance for hosting the Mobilizing for Community-Driven Policies workshop! Thank you to our coalition partners Maritza from Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice & Empowerment, Jordan from Greenbelt Alliance, & David from Save The Bay for being co-authors with our ED Alex Shoor on our San José Spotlight opinion piece encouraging you to participate in this week's community engagement about the 115 empty acres in San Jose known as Pleasant Hills. San Jose is in danger of blowing a golden opportunity with this land, so in our Op-Ed, we make the case for why this site has to: 1) include a lot of housing, especially affordable homes 2) be dense so San Jose has enough revenue to provide city services 3) create a vibrant neighborhood with plenty of community benefits like small businesses 4) offer different transportation options like walking, bicycling & public transit alongside driving to reduce traffic, pollution, and deaths from unsafe streets 5) be green to reduce the effects of global warming and provide space for folks to relax and recreate 6) engage the broader community in its design so it serves our whole region That's our take.
