We still have much more work beyond March, like with July for Black Women, August for Moms, October for Latina Women, November for Native Women…and that’s only naming a few! Was such an honor last week to engage in discussions and hear what we all must still do from Barbara Turner, Alicia Miller, Holly Hankinson, Sara Kahmann, CFRE - their inspiring journeys, community leadership, and philanthropic commitments. Proud of progress made and relentless advocacy from The Women's Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation , continuing to bring us together and empowering progress. Got to meet & learn from community champions & allies, and some of whom weren’t even allowed to open their own bank accounts to deposit their initial unequal paychecks on their own either. (Since 1974 was landmark with yet another Act to make it happen despite already law in 1960). How lucky am I that get to benefit from so much courage and wisdom from those before me? How lucky am I that Microsoft is committed to transparency breeding equity & inclusion? - sharing pay range data with JD’s & not asking about salary history. How lucky am I that I am empowered to continue our fight for a better for future, where all can participate, prosper, & reach their potential? Not to be underestimated, should be celebrated and pushed for more accountability; I have faith and fury that our elected officials & networks will work harder to catch up. (PS - Appreciate the nudge on this unique forum and also for your continued board commitment, Jyotsna Bernet! ) #PayTransparency #MSFTAdvocate #EqualPayDay #AdvancingEquity
Gratitude Alert! The Women's Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation gives a heartfelt shoutout to Barbara Turner and her incredible foundation, BT RISE for their generous sponsorship of our recent fundraiser held on March 14, in recognition of Equal Pay Day! Barbara's unwavering support for Equal Pay resonates deeply with our mission at The Women's Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation . Barbara, your dedication to our cause empowers us to continue our vital work, striving for equality and empowerment for women and girls. Thank you for being a beacon of hope and change in our community. We are truly grateful for your partnership! #EmpowerWomen #BTRise #ThankYouBarbara

Many nonprofits exist to improve the lives of women, children and other disadvantaged groups. For me, this is exactly why it's so important to have women at the table where decisions are being made. Similarly, having a board that includes at least some representation of the people the organization serves can be really powerful. At Athena, I work with nonprofits of varying sizes - rather than entering into a binary gender debate, I believe we need to focus on fostering collaboration and inclusivity to drive meaningful change. So how do we empower more women to ascend the career ladder to executive roles in larger nonprofits, while encouraging men to address the issues affecting their direct communities?

Helping nonprofit leaders to save the world by curating a Board of Directors that will drive impact, financial stability, and long-term sustainability

Executive Director of GOOD TO BE GOOD, Social Entrepreneur, Intersectional Gender Equity Advocate, Community Builder, Friend
Investing in women and gender-diverse people is something we actively do every day at GOOD TO BE GOOD. Not only is it our nonprofit mandate, but we also believe it is a vital long-term solution that benefits everyone. (We’re all interconnected!) Thanks to the support and allyship from partners like Co-operators, one of the ways we invest in our priority communities is by promoting experiences and spaces for them to engage in economic capacity building. With efforts like our “Change Make-Her program,” we know that when women and gender-diverse people with intersecting identities have access to inclusive training, mentorship, opportunities, and supports, they are empowered to build the thriving lives they deserve. It’s not rocket science: invest in all women, invest in our collective liberation.
Happy #IWD2024! This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #InspireInclusion. We’re proud to highlight our incredible partner, GOOD TO BE GOOD (GTBG), a women-led nonprofit that supports and empowers women and gender-diverse individuals in underserved communities through programming and grass-roots services. We sat down with GTBG Board Member, Tenika Bennett, and GTBG Manager of Care Support Services, Lindsay Van Dekerkhove, to chat about their Change Make-Her program and how GTBG inspires inclusion year-round. I design campaigns and organizing education for social justice organizations and campaigns that go beyond winning to building power.
In an election year full of opportunities to make history, here's another one. Lisa Middleton was the first trans person elected - to anything - in California. (How did we let Minnesota and Virginia beat us??) Now, she's running for the California state senate. In 2017, Lisa was elected to the Palm Springs City Council, where she helped improve local transportation and infrastructure, combat climate change, build more affordable housing, invest in public safety, and address the Coachella Valley’s homelessness crisis. As Mayor of Palm Springs in 2022, Lisa led the City’s economic recovery from the pandemic — helping small businesses reopen and create good-paying jobs. Plus, she raised two kids to be educators. What's not to like??? Lisa is in good company. Event co-organizer and Organizing To Win's number 3* fan Stephanie Wade opened up a conversation about inclusion and safety in her race for Seal Beach city council. Her co-conspirator in this event is none other than Fullerton city councilmember Ahmad Zahra, the first openly LGBTQ Muslim elected in the entire nation. The OC has seen a lot of change, but it's still Orange County ya'll. Shout-outs to barrier-breakers Stephanie and Ahmad. Is there someone who deserves a shout-out for breaking barriers in your community? Tell me in the Comments! To contribute to Lisa's campaign for history and common sense solutions, come to Stephanie and Ahmad's virtual fundraiser! Link in the Comments. *My parents are numbers 1 and 2. #CommunityOrganizing #OrganizingToWin #Election2024 #HomelessnessSolutions #Transit #ClimateChange #PublicSafety #TransRights

@18:46 on this video my son shares about the support provided by Bridge Communities, I also want to thank Judy Hsu for your beautiful words. This was an event held by Bridge Communities, the program that provided hope for my children and I, we are so thankful for their support. Housing insecurities hit more people than you may realize. This is why my home based baking business donates yearly to this program. We understand first hand what the struggle of being homeless feels like, not having a home to call your own takes a toll on the whole family. Here at Cake Charming LLC we are looking to connect with companies that have Corporate Social Responsibility Programs: Businesses looking to support social causes through their corporate social responsibility initiatives, who may purchase your cookies for events, employee perks, or corporate gifting. #BeSweetToYourself #YouDeserveIt #CorporateGifting #HomelessPrevention #DonateToday #CookiesThatCare #CookiesForACause #SupportHomelessPrevention #BakingABetterFuture #SweetChange #CookiesWithPurpose #EndHomelessness #CommunitySupport #BakeTheWorldBetter #SocialImpact #CookiesForGood #FoodForHope #MakingADifference #CharityCookies #GivingBack #HomelessAwareness #FoodForThought #EmpowerThroughBaking #SweetSolutions #AdvocateForHomeless #CookiesOfCompassion #Philanthropy #HopeInEveryBite #CommunityFirst #BakingHope #SocialGood #HomelessPrevention #BakeForChange #SupportAndSustain #CookiesForCommunity #EndingHomelessness #SweetSupport #CookiesForHope #HomelessnessAwareness #BakingForBetter #SupportShelters #HopeAndCookies #HomelessnessSolutions #BakeForGood #CookiesAndKindness #HelpingTheHomeless #CommunityCookies #BakeToEndHomelessness #CookiesThatCare #HomelessnessPrevention #SweetCharity #HopeAndHelp #CookiesForChange #SupportTheHomeless #KindnessThroughCookies #BakingToGiveBack

In today’s cultural climate, Women’s History Month is a can’t-miss opportunity for your company to make a tangible, authentic social impact. Here’s how: Support the life-saving work of the International Rescue Committee, the first humanitarian aid group to develop an international aid team dedicated to preventing violence against women and girls. The IRC is working in all major crisis areas, where multilateral support is needed now. Engage your employees in social impact through volunteering, donating, and community events. Your leadership can help foster good deeds and genuine social connections throughout your organization. Learn alongside your employees with virtual museum activities from the National Museum of American History, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and more. We are shining a spotlight on the International Rescue Committee because, as you know, support from organizations like yours may be more crucial now than ever before. Our Women’s History Month toolkit is also full of ways to engage your employees this March, including donation and volunteer opportunities, ERG event ideas, and more. https://bit.ly/48A4ALL

In light of Fran Itkoff's story, the 90-year-old volunteer who was let go from the National MS Society for asking about pronouns in emails, and the subsequent apology from the charity, it's clear that inclusivity education is vital. This incident and the ensuing uproar could've been avoided altogether. How? Through proactive measures like an interactive banner campaign in all internal emails. By educating staff on inclusivity and the importance of pronouns in email signatures, we foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Don't wait for a misunderstanding to escalate. Learn how to leverage your everyday emails to champion workplace inclusivity. Read the blog: https://bit.ly/4bNmVYv #InclusivityMatters #DEI #WorkplaceCulture #EducationIsKey
