The Future of Automotive Energy: Insights from Recent Developments Industry Updates and Innovations in New Energy Vehicles On August 15, 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China publicly solicited opinions regarding the "Comprehensive Utilization Industry Norms for Waste Power Batteries of New Energy Vehicles (2024 Edition)." The proposed regulations stipulate that recycling enterprises must achieve a copper and aluminum recovery rate of no less than 98%, and a recovery rate of electrode powder after crushing and separation must also meet the 98% threshold. According to customs data, in the first half of 2024, China exported approximately 222,000 pure electric vehicles to the 27 EU countries, marking a 14.6% decrease compared to nearly 260,000 units in the same period of 2023. In Jiangsu Province, the Development and Reform Commission issued a notice on enhancing the high-quality integration of distributed photovoltaic systems. By 2025, the province aims for a distributed photovoltaic access capacity of no less than 50 million kilowatts, increasing to at least 80 million kilowatts by 2030. The Xinjiang Development and Reform Commission, in collaboration with the State Grid Xinjiang Power Company, announced a notification regarding the layout and related work for independent new energy storage projects in 2024, which includes a significant 1.1 GW/4.4 GWh independent energy storage project. In a strategic move, Delong Co., Ltd. signed a "Solid-State Battery Strategic Cooperation Agreement" with Jiangling New Energy, focusing on resource sharing and complementary advantages to jointly promote the research, production, and market application of solid-state batteries. Additionally, a new hydrogen fuel cell production demonstration project has officially commenced operations, with an expected annual output of 2,000 fuel cell stacks and 2,000 hydrogen fuel cell engines. To date, the company has secured over 210 intellectual property rights, including 53 core technology invention patents. As of now, a total of 38 energy storage stations with a capacity of 4,105 MW/8,000 MWh have entered the Shandong power trading market. This includes 35 independent energy storage stations with a total capacity of 4,075 MW/7,940 MWh and 3 integrated energy storage stations with a total capacity of 30 MW/60 MWh. These developments underscore the ongoing transformation within the automotive industry, particularly in the realms of new energy vehicles and sustainable energy solutions. The commitment to high recovery rates and innovative partnerships will be crucial in shaping a greener future for the automotive sector.
