Today's #NHCW24 focus is Patient Appreciation. Patients play a major role in governing Community Health Centers and directing care. As Dr. Jack Geiger, one of the founders of the Health Center Movement said: "There is no other part of the American health care system in which patients themselves have such a powerful voice." Health center boards are required to have a patient majority, drawn from current patients of the program. We celebrate the patients and community board members who keep health centers accountable for meeting the needs of local communities. Read more in Dr. Geiger's 2016 article about the role of patients and communities in the earliest health centers: https://lnkd.in/eUqPSGaj #ValueCHCs

Today's focus for National Health Center Week is: Healthcare for people experiencing homelessness. Did you know Community Health Centers (CHCs) serve over 1.3 million patients who experience homelessness every year? Those facing homelessness are at heightened risk for chronic and acute diseases, behavioral health conditions, and more, which can lead to poor health outcomes, disabilities, and premature death. Our dedicated member CHCs, like Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, are at the forefront, providing essential care, support, and dignity to those in need. Today serves as a poignant reminder of the profound impact that accessible, compassionate healthcare can have in breaking the cycle of homelessness. #NHCW24 #ValueCHCs #CoCHCs
Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) is proud to celebrate National Health Center Week! This annual event highlights the essential role Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) play in improving public health and advancing health equity. CCH operates a FQHC, the Stout Street Health Center, and the clinic has served clients for 10 years now! In 2023, we served 17,022 patients. #NHCW24 #ValueCHCs
