It’s another week which means it’s time for another summer internship update as part of my fellowship with Equal Justice America. ☑📃 My summer internship at Legal Aid Chicago’s Housing Practice Group continues to be an enlightening and efficient learning experience. Since my last update, I have completed a Motion to Dismiss to be filed, as well as a Motion to Compel Discovery and a Motion to Continue Trial. This gave me insight into the intricate steps of a case before it reaches trial. These past two weeks, however, I have also been working on researching various housing subsidies, organizing client files, and investigating client evidence. Investigating client evidence has been incredibly interesting because it gives me the chance to analyze potential defenses and further inquire into aspects of a case. This experience has broadened my knowledge of the court system and has improved my skills in legal writing, client counseling, research and advocacy. Equal Justice America Fellows are providing updates on our legal work this summer as a reminder that we wouldn’t be able to accomplish what we are without the fantastic contributions of Equal Justice America, and to spread awareness about the work to close the access-to-justice gap. We aim to inspire supporters to further contribute to the cause. If you wish to donate, you can do so at my fundraising page here: https://lnkd.in/g2rvT2CF DePaul University College of Law #EJAFellowUpdate 🏘😊

Behavioural Neuroscientist for STEM industries 🚀, Conference Speaker, I speak about Uncertainty, Bias and Hidden Potential, Fun Seeker.
One of my pet hates is when people are not listened to, they are either ignored or, worse, heard and then ignored. This is why I am totally focused on helping geniuses communicate their ideas. We so badly need all the help we can get in this world, and their innovations and ideas must be heard. (If you know anyone who is brilliant but struggles to communicate, please introduce us). So, when I found out that there is a section of our society living with a condition called Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and so few people know about it, including medics, I became incensed that they were suffering in silence. In fact, some in the Establishment even had the audacity to say that it was all psychological. Can you imagine what it must feel like to wake up not being able to move or talk, and people telling you it's all in the mind! Terrible In actual fact it’s a neurological disorder whereby there is a blip in brain function and the messages are not getting to where they should, leading to highly debilitating problems. And it can happen to anyone at any time. A virus, a head injury and so many other reasons can change life as we know it. Then I found out about a charity called FND Dimensions founded by Steve Webster, who for the last 10 years has been doing astonishing work helping others and raising awareness. He now has a team of volunteers who are doing fabulous work. I’m proud to say I’m on the board of trustees and trying to raise funds so that they can continue being a lifeline to so many. I interviewed Steve, so that we can all understand better what FND is and how we can help. Take a look. My mantra this year is ‘make 2024 a year to help others more’. If you can spare a few pounds to help this fabulous charity of volunteers please follow the link in the comments. And if you are an organisation looking to spend your sponsorship budget for 2024, please think of us. We badly need funds to continue supporting so many people with FND. Please share this post if you think it worthy. Thank you. #FND #FNDDimensions #sponsorship #fundraising #donationswelcome https://lnkd.in/eMgj9hYW
