An unfortunate yet inevitable consequence of the troubles around the Red Sea. You don't have to be a "peacenik" to know war is just plain bad for business. I would expect similar outcomes for ships deployed in Europe that go to Asia for the off-season - TUI, AIDA. Aer Lingus Braced for Disruption as Pilots Set for Industrial Action Aer Lingus says it has been able to re-accommodate, refund, or rebook about 80% of passengers likely impacted by upcoming industrial action by pilots. - Affected Flights: The airline identified over 240 flights over five days expected to be canceled, affecting up to 35,000 passengers. - Potential for More Cancellations: Aer Lingus warns of potential last-minute cancellations on the day of travel. - Industrial Action: Pilots are set to start indefinite work-to-rule action from Wednesday, with an eight-hour strike planned for Saturday. - Open for Discussions: Both sides have left the door open for further discussions. - Dispute Details: Pilots are taking action over a requested pay increase of nearly 24%. The airline has offered just over half of this. - Official Statement: “The insidious nature of this industrial action has the capacity to result in much more cancellations over the coming weeks if it’s not resolved,” said Donal Moriarty, Aer Lingus chief corporate affairs officer. Here’s how my journey unfolded: I began my career in aviation, working with helicopters—yes, not the typical airplanes! From VIP flights to helicopter events or sending crew off to drilling platforms, it was an exhilarating start. Then I transitioned into air cargo and passenger planes, always staying connected to the aviation industry. ✈️ But my true dream? Traveling the world. So, I shifted to being a tour director for international bus tours, guiding groups across continents. From coast-to-coast USA trips to leading Russian, Chinese, American, European and Australian travelers through Europe—it was a whirlwind of languages, cultures, and adventures. 🚌🌍 Then came the world of inland shipping. I started sailing on the Elbe River, navigated all the rivers of France, the Douro in Portugal, and traveled throughout on the Rhine and Danube and all the connecting waterways and canals in between. There’s something magical about cruising on rivers—the calm pace, the steady glide, and the connection to the lands and cities on the banks. 🚢 From air to road to water, I found my perfect fit in river cruising, where every journey is an adventure, and every destination tells a new story. 60 Seconds With … Mirjam Scherer 🚀 Meet Mirjam Scherer, the Global Head of Specials Logistics at Air France KLM Martinair Cargo, has garnered more than 15 years of experience across sales, management and cargo logistics. Having joined KLM in 2002, prior to its merger with Air France, she has worked in a number of roles on both the passenger and cargo side of operations. ✈ How did you get into the air freight industry? It was kind of a coincidence because my background is in hotel management. However, I have always loved the KLM brand, so I applied for a job at KLM because of the international environment. While working for KLM, I used to ride horses as I was really a horse girl when I was young. Then, in 2007, I saw a job posting for a sales manager for live horses and thought, "Well, that combines my commercial competences with my personal interest in horses." I applied for the job and was hired, and since then, I have mostly been in air cargo, of which 7 years involved in the transportation of live animals. ✈ If you could have any superpower, what would it be? To let people truly listen to each other. Many people tend to speak without really hearing what others have to say. Better listening would lead to better understanding, and I think that would help a lot. ✈ If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would it be and why? I'm always intrigued by Obama, so I would like to have dinner with him. I don't really tend to look up to people; I just get inspired by them. Next would be Albert Plesman, the founder of KLM, because it was quite bold to start an airline back then. And then, I think, Nelson Mandela, no explanation needed. ✈  What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
