🎉 Congratulations to Xylyx Bio, Inc. for securing a $370,020 award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) , The National Institutes of Health! This SBIR Fast Track grant will support the development of a liver fibrosis cell-based assay platform. Xylyx Bio is pioneering engineered human liver fibrotic lesions to create a predictive in-vitro model, addressing the lack of effective drug testing assays for liver fibrosis. Aptamer Group PLC (AIM:APTA) shares rose 10% as it said proof-of-concept work on its new drug-targeting agent Optimer+ produced highly specific binders with significantly higher affinity than current technology platforms. Development times for Optimer+ were also significantly faster than existing aptamer-based approaches, said the statement. Preliminary experiments in mice also indicated Optimer+ binders to be well tolerated and demonstrate the basic requirements for therapeutic applications. Aptamer added it expects the new Optimer+ platform to expand the capability of its binders in all applications, especially in precision medicine.  Arron Tolley, Aptamer’s chief technical officer, said; “Both the lab-based research and the initial animal experiments suggest that Optimer+ will be well placed to deliver the next generation of binders to enable the targeted delivery of precision medicines. We’ve come a long way in just three years; here are some highlights of the journey so far:   • Founded in April 2021 to find therapies for TUBB4A leukodystrophies. Led by ARCH Venture Partners, this funding will drive Basking's mission to enhance patient outcomes. BB-031, a first-in-class RNA aptamer targeting von Willebrand Factor, demonstrated safety and tolerability in Phase 1, with promising results. The RAISE trial, a Phase 2 proof-of-concept study for acute ischemic stroke, is set to commence in 2024. "We're driven by the urgent need for innovative stroke treatments," says Richard Shea Rich Shea, CEO of Basking. The company will also advance BB-025, a rapid-acting reversal oligonucleotide, through a Phase 1 clinical program.
