Centre for Climate Research Singapore’s Post

CCRS was glad to contribute to the Regional Forum co-organised by the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on 4–6 September 2024. Titled ‘Towards a Weather-Ready and Climate-Resilient ASEAN’, this event brought together leading experts across the weather and climate services value chain to focus on how weather prediction and high-resolution regional climate projections, can better support climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction in Southeast Asia (SEA). CCRS Director Prof Dale Barker delivered an insightful presentation on ‘The role of global and local numerical weather prediction (NWP) in supporting impact-based forecasting / early warning systems’. He also played a pivotal role as the moderator of the panel discussion ‘Translating Climate Science into Climate Adaptation Action’. In addition, Dr Aurel Moise, Deputy Director of CCRS’ Department of Climate Research, shared the key findings from Singapore’s Third National Climate Change Study (V3) for the region in his presentation ‘Impacts of climate change in SEA: The latest regional findings from V3’. Dr Sandeep Sahany, Head of CCRS’ Climate Projections and Extremes branch, shared how extreme temperatures are expected to change in a warming climate in his talk titled ‘Regional overview of projected changes in extreme temperatures across SEA from V3’. As part of the deep dive into the 2023 WMO State of the Climate Reports for the South-West Pacific and Asia, Dr Thea Turkington, Head of CCRS’ Seasonal and Subseasonal Prediction branch, shared valuable insights in the panel discussion ‘Way forward with supporting national meteorological and hydrological services in ASEAN Member States in translating climate information into action’. These contributions underscore CCRS' commitment to advancing scientific understanding of weather and climate in Singapore and the wider SEA region, so that the knowledge and expertise can benefit decision makers and the community. We look forward to continuing our collaborations with regional and international partners to contribute to building a climate-resilient SEA. #ClimateChange #GlobalWarming #NumericalWeatherPrediction #ClimateScience #ClimateResilience #V3 #ASEAN #ASMC #WMO #asmcwmoforum
