Since July 1st, 2024, I no longer work for Icelandair.
I am really grateful for my two years at the company. I learned a lot, I worked with talented people and I expanded my network significantly. What stands out for me is that I’m leaving full of pride for my contribution to the company, which will continue to benefit from my decisions in the years to come.
I’m leaving Icelandair with a new foundation under the Ground Service Equipment service department and complete GSE fleet at the international airport in Keflavík and the smaller domestic airports. I led the integration of a new fleet management and maintenance system called Fleetio that was a complete game changer. Now there is full visibility. Fleetio raises the quality bar by a million, with smoother audits, increased safety standards and simplified issue reporting, and now data is flowing in like ever before. The cherry on the cake here is that via 5G trackers on every equipment, all real time usage is now automatically updated into the system every 30 minutes. All services and maintenance reminders are automatically reported to the GSE maintenance team and hourly usage trends for equipment are now visible.
This is called investing in the future! The improvements that can be achieved in the coming years are practically endless. With a system like this, Icelandair can now estimate quite accurately the lifetime of equipment and all future servicing costs, allowing for proper investment planning and cost forecasting.
I went on several GSE factory visit trips to research which de-icing truck would best suit Icelandair’s operation in KEF. My recommendation of the Safeaero 220 from Textron GSE was selected by management. Make sure to pay attention to them when you fly Icelandair from KEF, as they look like something out of a Transformers movie. Incredible machinery! It was a real pleasure to have been entrusted with such an important operational decision, as the support I received for the procurement and integration of Fleetio.
Really, I was just getting started and I had so many ideas for other practical and cost-effective improvements for Icelandair, but unfortunately, I guess my job was done. I know now that my next ideal role is one that allows me to improve work environments for people, streamline processes and reduce costs.
I want to thank my GSE maintenance team for two years of wonderful collaboration. You guys are majestic. I’d also like to extend a very special thanks to my fellow department managers at Ground Ops, it has been both enlightening and educational to work with you guys.
And to all my amazing colleagues at Icelandair thank you so much for a wonderful two years💙.
I also want to thank the Fleetio team for their seamless cooperation and support.
Finally, a big thank you to all my GSE world partners, it was a pleasure. Do not hesitate to contact me for any reason.
My next chapter is unwritten, but I am excited.
Andreas Boysen.
