Are Vets Against Raw? Is Raw Food Even Good for Pets? 2 arguments for: - Raw food is fresh food. It's unarguable that crisps are worse than buying potatoes and boiling them. Much less processing. - Fresh food feeds good gut bacteria which is often a catalyst for vet visits. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2 against: - People haven't got a clue. Many people come to us saying they ''feed raw''. They don't. They feed a version of what they deem is raw. They don't add offal, they don't include liver. Bone is often absent. - It's getting awfully expensive in certain cases. Even some RawSAFE/#defra/UK Pet Food manufacturers (the golden standard for raw food) add high quantities of grains & filler whilst charging a premium.

Chicken by product meal more palatable than dried chicken or chicken mdm in kibble? I have to say, I didn't expect these results. This group just published a study on the palatability of different chicken protein sources in dry dog food. They compared fresh mechanically deboned chicken (FMDC), dried chicken (DC), chicken meal (CM), and chicken by-product meal (CBPM) to determine their effects on dogs' preferences. Surprisingly, chicken by-product meal (CBPM) stood out as the most preferred option. I personally would have expected dried chicken or fresh meat to be the most palatable. Now, it's best to take with a grain of salt and remember that things like oxidation status and freshness weren't measured here and the authors cited issue with extrusion using fresh meat that was probably related to pH change and moisture. However, regardless, still challenges common perceptions and highlights the importance of by-products as a sustainable and palatable protein option for pets in dry extruded petfood. Now, one caveat just because it tastes good doesn't mean it is good for you, but it certainly should a viable protein option for dry petfood .
