The Colorado River is in a megadrought and communities throughout the western United States are feeling the effects. What's the best path forward?💧 #OneWater practice leader Dan Rodrigo and his colleagues are helping these communities assess the opportunities and risks that arise as a result of this crisis. Dan and his colleagues bring together integrated water resources planning, decision science and climate risk and resiliency. Using specialized computer tools and scenario planning, they help garner stakeholder consensus and develop water plans with adaptive management strategies. We're committed to helping communities strengthen their water supply portfolios: www.cdmsmith.com/reuse

Yesterday's edition of Newsday featured my take on their recent editorial calling for policymakers to take regional approach to storm preparedness. I agreed with the Editorial Board's assessment, and argued that "...local elected officials must coordinate with state and federal agencies to secure funding and the policy mechanisms needed to harden key infrastructural systems and educate the public about the risks of these increasingly extreme weather patterns." While individual local efforts can play an important role, large-scale environmental issues such as water protection and storm prep transcend municipal boundaries. This man has a crystal ball. Five days before we get hit with an epic rainstorm that took out roadways and parks, Richard Murdocco wrote a letter to the editor of Newsday calling on policy-makers to prepare for storms, not just hurricanes and blizzards but events like the one we experienced last night. I have frequently called on Richard for his expertise to comment on Long Island planning issues for articles I have written and I hope to be able to do some in the near future. #news #reporting #policy #longisland #publicpolicy #ccommunications #planning

With the impact of a changing climate, governments and communities are actively recognizing, understanding, and managing geohazard related risks. The Cambio platform manages information for stakeholders and tracks, evaluates, and manages the risks to these communities. The results then inform land use and mitigation planning, bylaw enforcement, emergency management, and asset management. Why do we need Core Reporting Metrics? … With climate change and a legacy of fire suppression, forests and shrublands across California face increased risks of large high-severity fire events and type conversion, threatening the state’s wildlands, infrastructure, public health, and safety. These natural lands provide a wealth of ecosystem services and benefits to California. To comprehensively understand and communicate the impacts of projects and funding, it is important to evaluate the outcomes of work completed using a honed set of metrics that capture the breadth of services these systems provide. … Learn more and help us hone in on the selection of Core Reporting Metrics by watching our workshop video and taking the online survey by March 8. >> https://lnkd.in/gj46bhqQ … #WildfireTaskForce #TaskForceProgress #Wildfire

As the impacts of climate change, drought, and flooding intensify, the need for reliable water management solutions has never been greater. Hydrologists are seeking modern alternatives to outdated software, driven by the growing demand to acquire, validate, and maintain critical water data. Effective management of water resources, especially in the face of climate uncertainty, is essential for ensuring a sustainable water supply. 💧 Realworld is excited to partner with DAWACO to bring innovative tools to the hydrology community. We are proud to announce the release of several software components designed to support groundwater management efforts. These tools empower hydrologists to make data-driven decisions and better manage water sources, independent of climate variables. John Leeuwenburg and Stephen Schrempp will attend the 2024 Western Groundwater Congress (October 7-9) hosted by the GRA: Groundwater Resources Association of California. Stephen Schrempp will also present on the critical intersection of agriculture and groundwater management. We look forward to connecting with industry professionals and sharing how our solutions can impact your water management strategies. https://lnkd.in/gzRqpdfY #WaterManagement #WesternGroundwaterCongress #Realworld
