The Mission First Mindset Often Kills Them I am riding a backroads route of 10,000 miles, 10 days, Florida to Alaska, with no electronic navigation, and no interstates, and will sleep outside with my motorcycle the entire route. I dedicate this challenge to HunterSeven Foundation and all our servicemembers and veterans who embody the mission-first mindset. Hoka Hey Motorcycle challenge was built on a vision. That vision was: One Thousand combat-ready warriors mounted on 1,000 battle-hardened horses charging into the mist, not knowing what lay ahead. Regardless of that uncertainty, they charge forward knowing hard sacrifices would be required... This describes how the American Servicemembers live their lives. American Servicemembers place the needs of their comrades, their mission, and their country above their welfare and needs. That's just what they do. It turns out I am a bit of a flag code geek... It may stem from producing events in the D.C. area, or maybe from Presidential campaigns across the nation, but I can not unsee issues from various events displaying the U.S. Flag. This weekend's National Football League (NFL) games were no exception. I generally accept that the horizontal display of a large format flag has become commonplace at most sporting events, and while it does not adhere to the letter of the code, it at least is part of a celebration with general respect. I just can't seem to get past cutting the flag into the shape of the U.S. And not even the entire United States, but just the lower 48 (where are Alaska and Hawaii?). This just feels disrespectful to me on a lot of levels. This morning's Soldier of the Month Board showcased exceptional performance. Each Soldier who entered my board demonstrated excellent skills and dedication. While I have many items in my kitbag to incentivize high performance, e.g., aligning incentives with goals and fostering a supportive and collaborative climate, I always appreciate the power of offering recognition. Recognition is not just a formality. It's a powerful way to show how much I value and appreciate my team's achievements. It serves as a strong motivator, reinforcing their positive behaviors and attitudes, and it's crucial to continue this practice to motivate them to continue their outstanding work 👌. Whether it's public recognition, an award presentation, or a seemingly insignificant gesture that could be a significant life hack for an individual, like parking in the Command Sergeant Major's courtesy parking space 🚗 for 30 days, these small wins are not to be underestimated. They have the potential to significantly impact our organization's performance, reinforcing the idea that every effort, no matter how small, contributes to our success.
