I am documenting my journey developing the Wikitongues Language Archive. Still in the delightful world of Analytics, let’s talk baselines! Wikitongues’ platform strategy is centered on engagement. Growing engagement means more opportunities to convert visitors into supporters. However, the organization has not had the resources to track and leverage analytics, meaning there was no way to know if investments paid off. First step therefore is to get that all under control. Wikitongues’ touch points are all over the place, with #Youtube (~350k views/mo), #Wikimedia (~6M engagements/mo), social media (orb knows 🧙♂️ ), and the website being core. Before we tackle building a unified view, we have to get a handle on each property. Google Analytics 4, with GTM and Tag Assistant are wildly powerful. Their Youtube channel did an excellent job communicating how to set it up and use it. Setting it up on wikitongues.org was easy and seeing the realtime behavior was like a childhood morning after Christmas, but somehow even nerdier. After some minor tweaks in the code, we had full coverage. But are things good? I’d argue that this is the wrong first question. There is no dead reckoning in growth. It presumes 2 data points - a start and an end, so that the result might be assessed in relation to the starting point. We have a baseline for YouTube and Wikimedia, and now the website. The real question is: What hypotheses are we testing with this data? And thus, the real fun - product iteration - starts. I’m lucky to be working with Luis Rodriguez de Cespedes to start hypothesis-driven product development and performance marketing. Follow along as I document the transformation! Next up: Conversions, Discovery, and Search! Do you have experience being smart and strategic across multiple channels and analytics streams? I’d love to hear from you! #Ownership #Product #Management #Analytics #Engagement #ProductStrategy

Enhancing the Skills of Tomorrow's Workforce: The role of Higher Education Institutions and Employers We extend our gratitude to the panel of experts and chair who participated in the ETS session at the Universities UK conference yesterday - Diana Beech, Justine Andrew, Kennon Harrison, Jr., Martine Mason and Professor Paul Croney OBE - focusing on the development of a skills-oriented ecosystem for employers, governmental bodies and educational institutions. The importance of skills development is a prominent topic, particularly with the Labour Party's creation of Skills England. This initiative aims to unite businesses, training providers, labor unions, and both national and local governments to collaboratively address skills shortages and prepare young individuals with the necessary skills and training as they transition from education to employment. Recent findings from ETS’s Human Progress Report indicate a global consensus on the necessity for employees to acquire a significantly broader skill set to maintain competitiveness in the job market: ▶ 75% of global participants express concern that their existing skills may soon become obsolete due to technological advancements and industry changes. ▶ 86% concur that “over time, an increasing number of jobs will demand new skills that are currently lacking.” Despite the widespread acknowledgment of the skills gap, individuals worldwide remain uncertain about where to focus their efforts for upskilling. Educational institutions have a crucial role to play, as more than half of the respondents indicated that they believe these institutions can facilitate the enhancement of learning new skills, thereby improving job prospects and overall performance.
