Yesterday, Lucija Rakočević took the virtual stage at Island Innovation's Virtual Island Summit to discuss the latest study published by the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat. This study dives deep into the challenges and opportunities for EU islands transitioning to #renewableenergy. 🔍 Key Highlights from the Study: Regulatory Barriers: In-depth analysis of obstacles like grid constraints and security of supply issues. Best Practices: Recommendations and examples for achieving a secure and sustainable energy supply. Case Studies: Insights from 10 representative EU islands, including Rhodes, the Aeolian Islands, and the Canary Islands. Exciting news from Carbon and Holosolis as they secure "project of national interest" status from French authorities for their solar module factory projects. This milestone, under the new green industry law, streamlines administrative processes, accelerating development timelines significantly. "This recognition marks a pivotal step in our journey," said Carbon Director Etienne Roche. The designation empowers developers with streamlined planning authorizations, expedited building permits, and potential exemptions for environmental considerations, aiming to cut administrative timelines by half. With plans to commence construction by mid-2025 and operationalize by late 2026, this initiative underscores France's commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions swiftly. 👥 This week, we hosted a dynamic panel discussion with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Europe, addressing one of the most pressing questions for Europe's future: Can decarbonisation be the key to #energyresilience? The event focused on how the energy crisis has challenged the #competitiveness of European industry, particularly highlighting Germany's 9% contraction in industrial output between 2018 and 2023, while China's rapid rise in clean technology manufacturing continues. Our CEO, Dr. Bernd Weber, shared valuable insights: 🎙"#Decarbonisation is not just about renewables—it's about integrating them into our energy system. We need a more systematic perspective on resilience and the rollout of renewables. #CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) is on the rise, and numerous pioneering projects are materializing! Not only is this EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers) conference a must-attend, but I also strongly encourage the entire CCS ecosystem to submit papers, share knowledge, and showcase use cases at #GET2024. Innovation thinking and #frugal solutions are essential for CCS, and cross-learnings play a paramount role in creating a sustainable and scalable industry. 🌱🌏🚀

📑 In his report to the European Commission, #MarioDraghi declared that accelerating #decarbonisation in a cost-efficient way, leveraging all available solutions through a technology neutral approach, is key to enhance Europe's #competitiveness. 🍃 He stated that the approach should include #bioenergy and #carboncapture, that should be backed by massive mobilisation of public and private finance. And added that there is a need to accelerate permitting of new energy projects. 🌍 Bioenergy Europe hopes that the EU institutions see it the same way so that we can work together to push forward the #energytransition and the EU's economy. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eAk84kkG
