Advancing the Brain Economy 🌎🧠 Lead of Neuro-Policy & Senior Fellow @ Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy | Adjunct @ UCSF
Impressive paper here by Paweł Świeboda and European Policy Centre on economic security. Let us also dig further into the role of brain science in economic security. A new vector for analytics and potential solutions. Colleagues (including Pawel) and I developed a Policy Brief last year with Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy titled, 'From Markets to Minds: Brain Capital to Drive Economic Security', to try to dig deeper into this area. We concentrated on one issue that is underestimated in our opinion, namely competition to secure and exploit “brain capital” (i.e., an individual’s cognitive, emotional, and social brain resources). We argued that this will play a central role in strategies to encourage, develop, and adopt the innovations on which future economic success will depend. 📢 Exciting Announcement! 📢 I'm thrilled to share that our latest research paper, "Fake News: Susceptibility, Awareness, and Solutions," has been featured in a #VoxEU column! Our research underscores the importance of demand-side interventions in combating misinformation. In this study, we explore the growing global threat posed by fake news and its impact on individual beliefs and decision-making. Our findings reveal: 1. Overestimated Abilities: Many individuals overestimate their ability to discern fake news. 2. Raising Awareness: Informing people about their susceptibility to fake news (through experience!) significantly increases their willingness to pay for protection, such as investing in fact-checking services. Good news: By raising awareness about personal susceptibility, we can positively influence actions to mitigate the adverse consequences of misinformation! 🔗 Read the full VoxEU column: https://lnkd.in/eaJ3HEmA A big thank you to #VoxEU for featuring our work! #EconomicsResearch by Tiziana Assenza, Alberto Cardaci, Stefanie J. This book provides insights on the art of governing a state and managing its external relations from a wealth-power logic. It looks at "economic statecraft", which consists of wealth production, wealth mobilization, and wealth-power conversion by a state. This book reconceptualizes what economic statecraft is and proposes a new theory focused on wealth-power conversion. With a long historic perspective, this book goes through the modern history of Western powers practicing economic statecraft since 1500, and presents three case studies, the United States, the European Union, and China, the three biggest users of economic statecraft in the contemporary world. The book serves as an ideal reference for policy makers, business people, and researchers whose work touch upon either wealth creation, power projection, or the combination of both.
