🚀 CEiiA // Centre of Engineering and Product Development is once again heading to space! On August 16th, the European Space Agency - ESA Phisat-2 satellite was successfully launched aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, and we are proud to have played a crucial role in this mission. At CEiiA // Centre of Engineering and Product Development, we were deeply involved in the development of the AVA App (Autonomous Vessel Awareness App), marking the first time that artificial intelligence (AI) is operating directly on board a satellite. This is a groundbreaking achievement, and we are extremely proud of the role we played in developing this cutting-edge technology. In practical terms, the AVA App will allow for the detection of vessels in near real-time from space. This capability will enable the identification of further illegal activities, such as unauthorized fishing, as well as the monitoring of maritime traffic and potential environmental hazards like oil spills. The AVA App optimizes data transmission and storage, making it a powerful tool for safeguarding our oceans and enhancing maritime security. Having actively participated in this project with an extraordinary and highly capable team, we overcame the inherent challenges and delivered a solution that underscores CEiiA's dedication to being a national leader in space access. This project is a testament to our commitment to innovation and sustainability, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in space technology. Together with our amazing partners—Open Cosmos, Ubotica Technologies, Simera Sense, GEO-K, KP Labs, and CGI—we are building intelligent solutions for a more sustainable and secure future! 💡🌱 #CEiiA #PhiSat2 #Space #Innovation #ArtificialIntelligence #EarthObservation #Sustainability

🚀 Excited to share insights at the Geospatial World Forum (GWF) 2024 in Rotterdam! 🚀 Next week, I'll have the privilege of discussing cutting-edge developments in the space industry at the Downstream Space Summit of the #GWF2024. It’ll be my pleasure to delve into two pivotal topics that are reshaping our industry: #Nichification: The future is now with emerging satellite constellations that will make novel data sets commercially available. Get ready for a deep dive into my favorite subject - Lasers from Space! #LIDAR #BackwardVerticalIntegration: The scarcity of essential EO data is a real challenge many companies face today. We'll explore why launching their own satellites and constellations into orbit is becoming a strategic move for more and more businesses, seeking autonomy over the data crucial to their operations. 📆 Mark your calendars! Join Naruo Kanemoto (Space Shift Inc.), Prateep Basu (SatSure) and me on Wednesday afternoon, May 15, for Session 2: "Commercial Space Industry: Unlocking the Potential of Image Intelligence" at the Downstream Space Summit. And if you are interested in discussing these topics further or exploring potential collaborations: Let's connect at the summit! 🌟 Ping me to arrange a meeting – I'm looking forward to meaningful conversations about everything EO and new partnerships. #GWF2024 #NewSpace #RemoteSensing #EarthObservation #Upstream #Downstream

BlackSky Expands Non-Earth Imaging Capabilities with HEO Deal 🌐 BlackSky ($BKSY), a space-based intelligence company that delivers real-time imagery, has signed a seven-figure contract with Australian startup HEO, a developer of satellite imagery system, to integrate its geospatial imagers into HEO’s non-Earth imaging (NEI) sensor network. This partnership increases space domain awareness by providing real-time data on orbiting objects and space debris, especially when Earth imaging is not feasible. The deal expands HEO’s satellite network to 46 and automates NEI data delivery through the HEO Inspect platform, proving customers with detailed analytics and intelligence. Small cube satellites, despite their size, are equipped with the capability to process and compress large volumes of hyperspectral imagery directly on board. This method circumvents the previous limitations where data had to be sent to Earth for analysis, thus saving crucial time and resources. #Optics #HyperspectralImaging #SpaceOptics

Φsat-2 is the latest example of a smart, connected and collaborative Earth Observation system enabled by Ubotica technology. Following on from the launch of #Ubotica’s CogniSAT-6 in March, the European Space Agency (#ESA) is gearing up to take the next step in revolutionizing Earth Observation (EO) with the launch this June of Φsat-2, an AI-powered CubeSat. Powered by Ubotica’s SPACE:AI, Φsat-2 will break free from traditional limitations and unlock a new era of real-time insights from space by demonstrating the ability to deploy different AI applications from many vendors, this deployment being achieved while in orbit. Φsat-2 breaks this paradigm by deploying AI directly onboard the #satellite. With a multi-spectral camera and SPACE:AI, it analyzes imagery in real time, extracting key insights and transmitting only the most valuable data. This slashes wasted time, data, and costs. Query of the week on Major-TOM: "airports" 🛫 🛬 . Let's search for some of Germany's airports in the vast MajorTOM dataset of European Space Agency - ESA. What we did: a) vectorising the entire Major-TOM image data for Germany; b) using our algorithms and models to make sure we also find the smallest parts of the satellite footage; c) no pre-training, no labelling happened in the preparation of this dataset. A Big Thank You to the European Space Agency - ESA for sharing their satellite dataset publicly, propelling our R&D. Contact us if you want to learn how #vectorisation and #dataexploration on unlabelled visual data helps you analyse, structure, and prepare satellite images and save time and money while doing it. Proud to have again this year taken part to this session of the challenges of space hosted by #IHEDN on February 6-8 for #CSDP, and in particular «The European Space Industry and the EU Strategic Autonomy». I presented the challenges of space seen from #ArianeGroup, through #ArianeGroup’s #Helix network point of view and as coordinator of the EDIDP project #SAURON, and Francois Raffenne presented the broader spectrum of activities in space led by #ArianeGroup and the many challenges we are facing. #Helix is a space surveillance network of currently 22 sensors all over the globe, 35 sensors by 2026, for all orbits providing operational services (catalog, characterization, intelligence, decision making..) to institutional and commercial customers #SAURON is a consortium of 20 partners, financed by the European Commission, dedicated to enhance currently available European sensors (optical and RF, ground and space-based) to identify and characterize space objects on all orbits. #europeancommission #ihedn #helix #SAURON #ssa #autonomy
