📢 Why does Africa need a Green Minerals Strategy? ☑️Africa hosts many of the minerals needed for the transition to clean energy technologies, thus playing a key role in the unfolding industrial age of clean energy. ☑️Lower carbon emissions from the production and use of energy are essential aspects of the global commitment to achieve the Sustainable Development Agenda. ☑️Climate change, caused by human activity, poses an existential threat to people and the planet’s ecosystems. ☑️Transitioning energy systems from fossil fuels to clean energy sources involves replacing technologies fueled by hydrocarbons with plant and equipment that require more materials to build than fossil fuel plants they replace. ☑️The demand for minerals used in the energy transition, as well as green industries has major implications for exploration, mining, processing, trading, use, and recycling across Africa and the world. ☑️Rising demand for minerals used in the energy transition. ☑️Africa’s mineral wealth has long been seen as a springboard to modernization. ☑️Africa has huge renewable energy resources, hereafter referred to as variable renewable energy (VRE). ☑️For African commodity producers, the rising profile of critical mineral resources promises higher mineral receipts, but there is a far bigger opportunity to be grasped. ☑️The continent has a development vision of green economic growth that is wholly inclusive, low-carbon intensive, and uses digital technology to enhance productivity. 🔌 These and more at the AMDC's Industry Intel-Session at the #MiningIndaba. 🗓 7 February,2024 📍CTCC, Cape Town, South Africa Join us at #MI24. It is awesome seeing that the continent has a development vision of green economic growth that is wholly inclusive, low-carbon intensive and uses digital technology to enhance productivity. Indeed it's time Africa begin harnessing the potential of clean energy technologies to replace fossil fuel. This makes the mining environment more conducive and safer for humans. Minerals are essential #Climate & Energy as building blocks for clean technologies. As the renewable energy industry grows, demand for minerals increases. A 2020 World Bank Report found that the production of minerals would need to increase by 500% by 2050 to meet the growing demand. The EC proposed its Critical Raw Materials Act in March 2023, to pave a pathway towards resilience & strategic autonomy by building partnerships with other countries.   EU Africa RISE (Reform for Investment and Sustainable Economies) investments towards Global Gateway Climate&Energy investment area increased recently. 21 of our 85 projects, and 28% of investment contribute to Climate&Energy. 4 projects in Namibia, Rwanda, Zambia and SADC work directly on CRM addressing the development of #value chain for automotive sector, opportunities #FDI and #value addition.   In Zambia we supported EU Delegation with #Market Assessment of copper value chain and investment in value addition. A EU-Zambia Copper business forum was organised in Kitwe  in April 2024 by the EUD and the Ministry of Mining under “Growing the Copper Industry through sustainable value chain“.   Over 250 international investors, European private sector, DFIs, impact investment funds, government, manufacturers,mining companies, came together to discuss investment, learn #invest in Zambia, and engage #B2B sessions.   The results were impressive, with high expectations they will drive progress towards the Climate&Energy transition and leverage funds towards 2027 #Global Gateway. 🎯President of Republic of Zambia His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema focused on the importance of mutually benefiting business relationship “we would like the inflow of capital at a fair price, the latest first grade technology in the mining industry, joint partnerships where European and Zambian business come together with mutual benefits” 🎯Hon Elisha Matambo Minister of the Copperbelt confirmed: “Copperbelt is committed to increasing the value addition” 🎯Karolina Stasiak, Ambassador of the European Union to Zambia and COMESA, spoke about forum's key objective to explore opportunities between Zambia and Europe.   What we EU Africa RISE (Reform for Investment and Sustainable Economies) learnt #BF, the 2nd high level BF we participated after the successful #EBBF in Oct 2023: 🌱We continue to play a catalytic role in the market. South Sudan plans to increase oil production to 230,000 barrels per day (bpd) by 2026 and develop a 60,000-bpd refinery to meet domestic demand. Achieving these goals will require increased investment in exploration as well as enhanced human capital development. HALTIQA - Bridging Energies' Managing Director Lionel Rabin participated the Oman Water Week panel on #Sustainable #Technologies and #Innovations, presenting the concept #BrineMmining for integrated cogeneration of marketable molecules (#GreenHydrogen, #CausticSoda, #Clorine derivatives, #Lithium, etc.). Oman's ambitions in #GreenHydrogen production means an addition of 50 million M3 of brine side stream by 2040 and over 100 million M3 by 2050. An opportunity as much as a challenge!
