Tornadoes often impact low-income areas where many homes are uninsured or under-insured and are traditionally marginalized populations. These areas also receive less media attention and, as a result, fewer resources for recovery. Learn how you can help: https://bit.ly/3JeCrAQ #disaster #tornado #CDP4Recovery

The two greatest human needs are the need to grow and the need to contribute. Service starts with time and muscle power. You show up, and you help a hurricane victim clean out her kitchen. You show up, and you fill up boxes at a food bank. You show up, and you help bathe animals at the humane society. Sometimes that's as far as it goes. Other times, you discover an area of service that draws you in and inspires you to do more. Service CONTINUES, therefore, with deeper investment, where we begin to embody the belief that we are one another's keepers. We step aside from a lifestyle of self-centeredness, and start experiencing the deep fulfillment that comes from helping our fellow human beings. #Service #SeasonOfGiving #SeasonOfService #ServiceMinded #Support #PeopleHelpingPeople #PeerSupport #CommunitySupport #VeteranSupport #FirstResponderSupport #MilitarySupport #THISisPTG #PTG #PosttraumaticGrowth #StruggleWell #WarriorPATHH

I had planned to come back to LinkedIn today, but now am waiting for #HurricaneBeryl and its impacts to Cozumel. I think most folks understand (finally) that human-induced climate change and the myriad other ways in which we have destroyed ecological balance, the impacts will now be more and more common. From diseases spreading, to drought, to hurricanes, we will have to cope with disasters. A few observations, in no particular order, about *what community looks like* (and doesn't) in this context: 1. I am working on a grant application for a client, and was granted a deadline extension to gather up needed information due to the hurricane. This should be #philanthropy #goals 2. I am working as a partner with another consultant to co-facilitate a session on Tuesday. My partner graciously gave me flexibility for our planning call and volunteered to do the heavy lifting on prep due to the Hurricane. This should be #partnership #goals (and YES I met this partner in the Katalyst Consulting Group - shoutout to the BEST professional community I've ever been in). 3. I have touched base with ALL of the folks we have come to befriend or otherwise interact with regularly here in Cozumel, and am surprised to see there are more people than I realized. I feel supported and know that we are not alone. I've gotten good advice from Cozumelenos and long-time immigrants. Truthfully, I know we have far more support than we ever did in Florida. This should be #community #goals. 4. Our landlord has been extremely difficult, dishonest, and inappropriate, exacerbating stress. #ThisIsLife and hopefully one day, we can own our own home. For now, we have what we need. Please do pray for all of those reeling in this storm's aftermath, contribute where you can to recovery efforts *especially* on islands that suffer the legacy of colonialism, and send your "weakening," tranquilo vibes to Beryl. No, it's not scientific, but it doesn't hurt when all other precautions are in place. See y'all on the other side. #NewNormal #Climate #community #DisasterPreparedness

Tornadoes are most likely to occur during April and May while children are in school. Children are at risk of injury and death from flying debris, and half of all tornado-related injuries occur during rescue and cleanup. Tornadoes are unpredictable, so it's important for children, families, and communities to know how to seek shelter and deal with power and housing failures. Many of you may remember that some months ago a category 5 hurricane 'Otis' hit Acapulco in Mexico in Oct 2023. While the world's eyes may have shifted to other disasters (and there have been too many unfolding to count) - Project C.U.R.E. has been on the ground helping local health facilities and hospitals recover from this devastating weather event - not just through the supply of critical health supplies and equipment but also through our Kits for Kids program. These little red bags that are essentially a medicine cabinet in a bag - with a number of hygiene and first aid products that we keep handy for rambunctious kids here in the US - these are often in short supply in under-resourced parts of the world. I especially love that these kits are put together through volunteer events especially those hosted by corporations across the United States. It's a lovely way to have a direct impact on communities in need!
