Hi everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I quite recently finished creating a document I’ve been working on and I would like to share it here. I can understand how stressful graduating from a psychology undergraduate can be when you’re interested in pursuing clinical psychology. It is incredibly competitive and until recently, I believed my only options were a taught masters or an assistant psychologist post. I had no idea just how useful support work and healthcare assistant roles are, and didn’t even consider PWP or CAP roles. I’ve spent some time doing research into various options following undergraduate degrees, all at different levels of competitiveness and suitable for people in different financial situations. Finally, I created this document outlining the most commonly taken and most appropriate routes for prospective clinical psychologists to take immediately following your undergraduate degree. I will emphasise that this document does not cover every possible route, only the six I deemed most relevant. I hope this helps ease the pressure off at least one person and helps you to feel more confident in your options following graduation! #clinicalpsychology #clinicalpsychologydoctorate #dclinpsy #clinicalpsychologyapplications #dclinpsyapplications #clinicalpsychologist #careers #psychology #psychologycareers

Someone in my DClinPsy cohort once said: "I knew I only wanted to be a clinical psychologist, so I was just going to keep applying and applying until eventually I get a place....." And I thought wow, that level of resolve and acceptance must be liberating, in some ways. Me, on the other hand... I truly had to put myself back together and psych myself up to apply after both rejections, so I was never sure I would apply again. One thing we both my cohort buddy and I had in common is that we explored other roles and opportunities and considered other jobs that would enable us to express our values between applications. Through that process I became more convicted that clinical psychology was for me, over other careers. This process gave me the strength to apply THREE TIMES! Despite our different responses, my colleague and I both got a place and studied in exactly the same cohort. Not getting a place is tough but it's only a part of the grand story! There is sooo much left to be written! You have the power, you have the pen. So, are you more like my fellow cohorter (defo applying again) or like me (not sure if will apply again)? . . . . . . . . . . . #dclinpsy #career #clinpsy #clinicalpsychology #clinicalpsychologystudent #clinicalpsychologist #psyd #doctorate #uni #doctor #doctormelodysmith #psycgology #psychologist
