Clinical psychologists can be a busy bunch and understandably, focused on clinical work. Diversity, in terms of who can access a psychologist for career development support is important too. Reflection is a powerful tool that can help in more ways than one. Not only does it help us learn from our experiences, but it's also useful when writing personal statements and preparing for interviews. Using a model like Gibbs' Reflective Cycle, you can break down your experiences into clear steps, making it easier to think deeply and learn. Here's how it works: 📍Description - What happened? 📍Feelings - How did it make you feel? 📍Evaluation - What went well, and what didn't? 📍Analysis - What can you understand from the situation? 📍Conclusion - What could you have done differently? 📍Action Plan - What will you do next time? For example, if you were in a group session and noticed someone was quiet, you might feel concerned they weren't as engaged. Reflecting on this, you could think about what worked and what didn't, analyze why it happened, and plan a small change, like starting with an icebreaker next time. Using a reflective model like this in your personal statements or interviews shows not only what you did, but how you think and adapt—a key skill in clinical psychology. Want to learn more about how reflective practice can help? Check out our blog for a simple guide on Gibbs' Reflective Cycle and other tools. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eQQbSUXT Reflection isn't just for learning—it can strengthen your applications, too! #ReflectivePractice #GibbsReflectiveCycle #ClinicalPsychology #DClinPsy #MentalHealth
