Certified Professional Coach | Transforming Employee Experiences | Thought People Leader | Strategic Change & Culture Champion
The topic no one wants to discuss - the dismantling of DEI…The defunding of DEI is happening across the country in public colleges, and may soon impact Corporate America if not already. But how did diversity and equity become such undesired terms? All DEI trainings I've taken have reinforced awareness of the various lenses of diversity, how to embrace it, and how to champion for it - never to divide. The defunding of DEI initiatives will impact all people, not just certain races. With or without these roles, I encourage leaders to increase their conscious awareness when they experience 👉🏽 unfair hiring practices 👉🏽 lack of representation in leadership meetings 👉🏽failing to consider the impacts of policy changes on people over 40, people with disabilities, or women (and all others) What does the future hold for diversity and equity initiatives? How will you continue to champion it? Let's keep the conversation going. https://lnkd.in/eJ5xGmNh

A Nigerian trained legal practitioner with focus on corporate Law, commercial law, family law, probate, real estate, debt recovery, intellectual properties.
There are certain things that I thought or used to believe were impossible when I read about them or saw them in videos until I started travelling. The world might be a “global village”, however, inside this village, there are clans that are unique in their various approach to certain issues that happen in this village. I would never have believed a 16-year-old is a graduate and then working. In the year 2021, there was a fierce argument in the Nigerian Senate whether they should legislate to remove the age restriction blocking persons under the age of 16 years from taking the national Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Examination which is a prerequisite for admissions into universities in the country. Also, the official age for general employment or employment in government or civil service seems to vary in some nations, she might not qualify for a job in Nigeria due to her age. If such restrictions existed globally, talents such as Shania would be held back to still be in high school, when they would have been harnessed and used for such beautiful work as she is doing. It is a beautiful thing to see that things which one may consider impossible or unheard of, can become possible and has been done by others to show they are possible and doable. I hope we will remove general restrictions and allow great talent to blossom at their own pace.

Shania Shakura Muhammad is breaking barriers and making history in the education field! At just 16 years old, she has earned numerous degrees and is now the youngest full-time teacher in the United States. She highlights that she completed her higher education debt-free. Powerful words that need to be spoken.
It was a joy and a privilege to join Howard University’s 2024 graduates as this year’s commencement speaker, and to celebrate the traditions and students of this storied institution. Howard has been one of America’s leading HBCUs for nearly 160 year and holds a special place in history for what it symbolizes and what it has made possible. I was incredibly honored to witness this moment and highlight not only the courage of the class of 2024, but the courageous spirit of HU. #HU #youknow #classof2024

Behind both of these stories lies one of the founding myths of our meritocracy. One way or the other, we tell ourselves, the rising education premium is a direct function of the rising value of meritorious people in a modern economy. That is, not only do the meritorious get ahead, but the rewards we receive are in direct proportion to our merit. https://lnkd.in/eSUeNFDQ

In our diverse society, the classroom is a microcosm of cultures, languages, and experiences. Culturally responsive teaching practices are essential in fostering an educational environment where every student feels respected, understood, and valued. By integrating students' cultural backgrounds into teaching methodologies, educators can enhance learning, promote inclusivity, and build a classroom culture that celebrates diversity. Benefits of Culturally Responsive Teaching: Boosts Engagement and Achievement: Students are more engaged and perform better academically when they see their culture and identity reflected in the curriculum. Promotes Empathy and Understanding: Helps students appreciate and understand diverse perspectives, preparing them for global citizenship. Encourages a Sense of Belonging: All students feel welcomed and included, which is crucial for their emotional and social development. As we commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision, we're reminded of the strides we've made towards educational equity and the journey that lies ahead. This pivotal case underscored the importance of providing an equal and inclusive education for all, a mission that culturally responsive teaching continues to advance. 🌟 Let's honor this legacy by committing to practices that acknowledge and celebrate the richness of all students' cultural backgrounds. 🌟 Join us in reflecting on this historic event and explore how we can collectively work towards more inclusive and responsive educational environments. 🔗 For more information on the commemoration event and how you can participate, visit https://lnkd.in/gtzj6NVD #CulturallyResponsiveTeaching #EducationalEquity #BrownvBoard70 #InclusiveEducation #DiversityInClassrooms
