Ameren Illinois crews worked throughout the evening on Sunday and on Monday to restore outages in the Eastern and Southern parts of our territory. Severe thunderstorms brought significant rains, strong winds, tornados and hail causing peak outage count of more than 37,000 on Sunday 5/26/2024 at 8:00 p.m.
Due to the extent of the damage and the multiple affected operating centers across our 45,000 square miles territory, crews are working around the clock to get power restored as quickly and safely as possible.
Thanks to our ongoing investment in new technology to improve the resiliency of the grid and vegetation management, our crews have restored more than 33,000 outages or 90% within 24 hours. Absent these investments over the years, it would have been several days before we could restore so many customers.
More than 850 resources are engaged in the restoration efforts including internal, mutual aid, and contractors.
Appreciate the effort of Gil C. Quiniones and the Com Ed team for sending crews to assist.
Low threat for more storms over the next few days will give our teams a bit of breathing room to restore the system to normal operations.
As we see more frequent and more severe weather events, we will need to continue investing in grid modernization and resiliency technologies to minimize outages and reduce restoration time.
