🌿 Our Rights of Way Team and Ripple Volunteers have been hard at work on FP27! Thanks to concerns raised by Beds Police and Ward Cllr’s about anti-social behavior, we took action. 👏 With support from Stratton Upper School, we identified areas for improvement and collaborated with our Ecology Officer to minimise ecological impact. We made sure our work didn't disturb nesting birds and removed invasive plants to enhance local ecology. 💡 We also trimmed vegetation around lamp posts for better visibility, making the path safer at night and discouraging unwanted activities. 🙌 The day was a success, with the community showing appreciation for our volunteers' efforts in tackling this issue. 👍 Positive feedback from Ward Councillors highlights the impact of teamwork. This project is a testament to what can be achieved when communities unite for a common goal! 🌍 #CommunityAction #VolunteerPower

Can people be a force for good? Of course! In fact, for almost all of human history, people have been deeply connected with the ecosystems of which we were a part, carrying out the role of caregiver, collaborator, team mate and friend to the species and connections around them. And this is still happening today, in some places. Whenever we grow a garden, build soil, plant trees, and support businesses and people that do the same, we're achieving the modern equivalent of this. Being a part of our ecosystem. Taking care of our needs without trampling those of others. Giving back where we can. The way things are set up means we have certain challenges to overcome, but connecting and caretaking in the ways that we are able to brings a richness to our lives and communities. We are a force for good. We are a part of this global community. We are caretakers and collaborators with the world around us. How are you caretaking the Earth, even in a small way? #brennaquinlan #artwithpurpose #artasactivism

Action for nature is already happening on the ground in Sussex but isn't always visible. 🌱 🐝 In recent meetings with farmer clusters across Sussex, the LNRS team have heard about interventions taken to improve habitats and support species, at the same time as running a business. That these aren't known more broadly or celebrated is because land managers are busy getting on with it. The purpose of #LocalNatureRecoveryStrategies for Sussex is to identify opportunities for nature's recovery, but to do that, it’s important we know where we're actually starting from. 🎯 If you're a farmer, community group, organisation or land manager use the voluntary tool to MapYourActions for nature. Whether they are large or small, in progress, implemented or planned, the Sussex LNRS team want to hear about them! Journey North hosts the #MonarchBlitz from July 26-August 4 to help raise awareness and support #Monarch #Butterfly #Conservation The Blitz provides a unique opportunity for individuals and organizations in #Canada, #Mexico and the #UnitedStates to join forces across international borders to safeguard this iconic #NorthAmerican species. Since #monarchbutterflies and #milkweed populations cover such an extensive portion of North America, the participation of #volunteer community #scientists is key for furthering our understanding of these species. In the context of #climatechange, the range of monarchs and milkweed is likely to be impacted, highlighting the need for gathering and analyzing robust, long-term data to better understand #population and #habitat trends. Celebrate Earth Day with MiniNature Reserve by joining our mission to conserve native plants and restore urban landscapes! We're inviting businesses to partner with us through our 1% for the Planet initiative, allocating just 1% of their profits to support our vital conservation and restoration efforts. Together, we can make a significant impact on our future, enhance corporate social responsibility, engage employees in meaningful environmental initiatives, and demonstrate a commitment to preserving biodiversity and combating climate change. Partner with us here: https://lnkd.in/gqqguDPk About Us: Our mission is to restore and preserve nature in urban environments through landscape projects that engage, educate, and empower the local community. We do this by helping low-income communities create what we call "MiniNature Reserves" and "Community Nurseries." A MiniNature Reserve is a native garden in a public park, school, parkway, neighborhood, or small business storefront. A Community Nursery grows native plants for these gardens and sells them to the public to fund our work. In addition, Community Nurseries double as a green spaces and free community education centers. We are a Gen Z led 501c3 🌍💚 #EarthDay #1PercentForThePlanet #SustainablePartnerships

For years, cases of human-wildlife conflict have plagued the communities living around Tsavo National Park, primarily due to high human populations and incompatible land use practices in the adjacent areas. Limited natural resources in the Tsavo ecosystem have led to the destruction of the once-thriving habitat, sparking conflicts between members of different conservancies and ranches as they compete for these essential resources. The struggle for access to water, grazing land, and other vital resources has escalated tensions, creating a challenging environment where cooperation gives way to discord making it hard for everyone to work together in the area. #climatechange #conservation #wildlife #TaitaTavetaWildlifeConservanciesAssociation(TTWCA) #Resources #ifaw https://lnkd.in/dhB5NKfQ

Overall funding for Indigenous Peoples and local communities’ tenure and forest guardianship has increased by 36% since 2020, with 72% of the increase driven by the IPLC Forest Tenure Pledge. IP- and LC-led funding mechanisms can ensure that more of this funding is channeled to communities’ own local organizations! The Rights and Resources Initiative’s IP- and LC-led funding mechanism, the Community Land Rights and Conservation Finance Initiative (CLARIFI), represents the next generation of an Indigenous-led global movement to secure rights and safeguard nature. By supporting the self-determined priorities of local peoples, CLARIFI ensures that they have agency in shaping their own future. #ThePledgeWeWant Learn more here → clarifirights.org

Each year in the United States, urban tree cover decreases by an estimated 36 million trees, or 175,000 acres. For perspective, New York City’s Central Park contains about 18,000 trees, meaning the U.S. loses 2,000 times the number of trees in Central Park each year to factors like urban development, industry, climate change impacts, and lack of tree maintenance. In 2021, tree equity studies confirmed that socially and economically disadvantaged communities are more likely to experience the negative effects of urban tree loss. On average, communities with high levels of poverty have approximately 41 percent fewer trees than their wealthier counterparts. To help combat this inequity, nonprofit environmental advocacy organization Faith in Place was awarded $1.99 million by the U.S. Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program to increase urban tree canopies in the Great Lakes region. These funds will allow Faith in Place to facilitate tree planning and workforce development projects at faith institutions and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving disadvantaged communities throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. A million thanks to Rev. Brian Sauder for sitting down with me to talk about tree equity and environmental justice for this article for Healing Our Waters - Great Lakes Coalition. #treeequity #treeplaning #environmentalworkforcedevelopment #freelacewriter #greatlakesregion #climateimpacts #urbantreeloss #environmentaljournalism

Anyone in #SoCal know about #CloudSeeding? It seems a mistake of local government, currently active in #OrangeCounty, to allow for silver iodide (toxic) and acetone (also toxic) to be dispersed in the air in order to encourage rain. Not only do these substances end up in the air we breathe, but also in our drinking water and soil. Water filtration is one fix, but is the new normal masking outdoors? And is our agriculture safe (I would hazard a no generally, anyway). Would love any thoughts on this, especially from experts in the field. Renee Cho this might be an interesting topic to cover if you haven’t written about it yet… https://lnkd.in/grba48Bb THIS is why you have to consider local voting and understand the politics of your region. Policies like these rarely, if ever, take into account the largest minority in the world — those of us in the disabled and chronically ill community. For those of us with #autoimmune conditions, our environments (at least in the U.S.) are slowly killing us. None of our bodies were designed to #detoxify at the level at which we currently allow for-profit corporations to operate. Don’t have an indoor air purifier? Get one yesterday. Because I can also tell you that this cloud seeding business is NOT helping here. More effective? The reintroduction of #shepherds, who are using sheep and goats to clear dry brush in unpopulated areas at risk of wildfires. Isn’t it interesting that sometimes the simpler, older way of doing things can be a more salient solution…that actually gets to the root cause (consider also controlled burning). #Indigenous knowledge will save us. We created #ClimateChange. Spraying #chemicals in the air to fix it seems counterintuitive to me. Anyone else? Yet another reason why #Climate #advocacy is disability advocacy.
