Central and its member cooperatives are proud to manage transmission and distribution facilities across all 46 counties in South Carolina, delivering electricity to over one-third of the state’s population. Today, these member cooperatives serve more than 940,000 meters and over 2 million residents, with 79,000 miles of power lines covering 70% of South Carolina. Central has strategically invested in transmission lines, especially “radial lines,” to distribute energy efficiently and cost-effectively, particularly to remote areas. December ended at an all-time high for the industry when, on December 30th, the announcement came in that the world's longest undersea cable has officially started powering 2.5 million British homes! Have a look... https://bit.ly/3S4mAsM It's expected that local consumers can collectively save up to 500 million pounds over the next ten years thanks to this project... named the Viking Link Electricity Interconnector. I can see big things happening over the course of this year! #interconnector

Curious about the difference between distribution lines and transmission lines? Allow NG Gilbert to shed some light! Here's the difference: • Transmission lines act as the highways of the power grid, transporting electricity over long distances from power plants to substations. They handle high-voltage electricity to minimize energy loss during transmission. • Distribution lines function as the local roads of the power grid. They distribute electricity from substations to homes, businesses, and other end-users. These lines operate at lower voltages to ensure a safe and reliable power supply in our communities.

It’s no secret that United States’ electrical infrastructure is aging. But it may also be hindering the transition to clean energy. To circumvent issues, the White House announced a new initiative between the federal government and 21 states to make repairs and improvements to the grid more quickly. The unprecedented initiative includes a commitment to build a bigger, more modern grid in the hopes of reducing power outages while increasing transmission capacity, which is seen as the primary obstacle to adding more clean energy sources to the grid.

The initiative by Consumers Energy to bury electrical lines represents a significant step towards the future of infrastructure development. This method, known as undergrounding, is increasingly viewed as a solution for enhancing the reliability and safety of power supply, especially in areas prone to weather-related disruptions. By investing in such projects, we are moving towards a future where utility services are more resilient, minimizing the impact of environmental factors. This approach not only ensures a consistent power supply but also aligns with modern infrastructure needs. Plan to link Texas ERCOT electric grid to southeastern U.S. states is in the works https://lnkd.in/gDRDBgze by Dan Lieber Since forever, Texans have proudly proclaimed that our state electricity grid run by ERCOT did not need or want to connect to the national grids. We don’t want no stinkin’ federal regulators putting their noses into our business. Quietly, though, behind the scenes, state regulators have worked for more than a decade with Pattern Energy, a private company, to create the “Southern Spirit Transmission.” The goal is a 400-mile transmission line from the Texas/Louisiana border, through Louisiana and into Mississippi to connect with grids in the southeastern United States. Power could flow into or out of Texas, depending on the need. #electricity #grid #louisiana #mississippi #ercot #transmission
