This time last week, we made our second appearance at Manchester Pride! Colleagues from across the organisation had a great time marching in the parade, cheering, singing, and dancing through the city centre. We know that LGBTQ+ young people are over-represented in the youth homelessness community. akt found that a quarter (24%) of homeless young people identify as LGBT and over three quarters (77%) believe coming out to their parents was the main factor. We believe that it’s so important to continue our work to support LGBTQ+ young people who are not being supported by their families and therefore have nowhere to go.

Public Health Branding + Storytelling | Using Data to Drive Marketing, Social Media and Content Creation
“As the studies and surveys cited here demonstrate, #LGBTQ+ people living in #rural communities encounter the same mental healthcare challenges as other rural Americans, but the disparities in accessing resources and appropriate treatment can be even more difficult because of existing prejudices and discrimination. It’s a call to action for rural communities to come together to increase awareness and dispel the stigma experienced by LGBTQ+ individuals. Some ways communities can help to tackle the disparities include: In rural #healthcare – Educate the workforce, put in place inclusive systems of care, and implement policies that address discrimination. In rural schools – Implement practices and policies to support #LGBTQyouth. In local and state governments – Propose and support laws and public policies that enforce protections against discrimination of LGBTQ+ people.” #RuralHealth

June is Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 For the month of June, we'll have some weekly LGBTQ+ Housing facts for you. The LGBTQ+ community tends to be significantly younger than the non-LGBTQ+ population. Specifically, 52% of individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ are under 35 years old, while only 23% of those identifying as straight and cisgender fall into the same age group. These age disparities account for roughly half of the difference in homeownership rates between LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ individuals, as younger people are generally less likely to own homes compared to older individuals.

This #PrideMonth, it's important to remember that LGBTQ+ youth are more than 2 times as likely to experience homelessness compared to non-LGBTQ+ peers. Actions like engaging youth as full partners in creating better services can help reduce disproportionate impact. We need to work on solutions together so all young people can reach their full potential. Explore our seminal study on youth homelessness for more: https://lnkd.in/gPh-6vJn
