This is part of an unpublicized pilot program called Asylee Moveout Assistance. Remember Maslow’s hierarchy of needs? Securing necessities for living — food, water, shelter, safety — provides the foundation for seeking higher-order flourishing. Without these fundamentals, life devolves into a never-ending struggle to find stability. That’s why the homeless benefit most from having housing for themselves. We know this from research, confirming this part of Maslow’s insight (I’m aware of its critics). We also know that the single most significant determinant of homelessness in a community is the cost of housing. And in the United States, real estate values remain tethered to social indicators like school district quality, crime rates, and employment levels, fostering gated communities, insular mindsets, and NIMBY entitlement. That’s why it’s so encouraging to see an affluent enclave like Boston’s Back Bay open its arms to the homeless, and say, “Yes, in my backyard. Welcome to the neighborhood.” We need more of this. In the end, we’re all just walking each other home — no matter where we live.

This trend started around the financial crisis in 2008. Big companies saw an opportunity to invest in real estate when housing prices dropped. They started buying homes at a rapid pace, often paying in cash, which made it hard for regular homebuyers to compete. This massive buy-up has led to a decrease in affordable housing available for the average person. It's not just about the lack of homes anymore, it's about who controls them. These corporations often turn these properties into rentals, driving up rental prices and changing the dynamics of local housing markets. Most people can relate to wanting or needing more affordable housing. Do you know someone who needs it? Or do you? According to Affordable Housing Finance, the general population has a 1 in 200 chance of experiencing homelessness in a given year. These odds vary based on economic circumstances. For people at or below the poverty line, the odds are 1 in 25! Let's face it, rent and home rates are at an all time high. Not just here in Texas but across the nation. Mosaic is constantly brainstorming and actively 🏃♂️ working to find ways to create change and be of service to our communities. Recently, Mosaic Collaborative went to a dinner hosted by H. E. Butt Foundation H-E-B. The event: "Know Your Neighbor Project" focuses on housing. Various community members came together; from those who have a lived experience with houselessness to executives and everyone in between. Together we discussed what the various experiences of housing entail and ways we can possibly help 🤝 create change. Project managers, house flippers, developers, realtors and many others can help shift the track that is the HOUSING CRISIS. Together, we can work toward greater affordable housing and as a result; creating just a little bit less suffering in the world. We all can benefit by helping each other, not just in housing but in random acts of kindness, compassion for others and a willingness to help others when possible. Bozeman home prices have officially reached an all-time high, raising the cost of living in Gallatin County and the region. A recent study completed by the Gallatin Association of Realtors calculated the median price for a single-family home in the greater Bozeman area in February 2024 to be $979,500—that's $52,000 more than Seattle. As a Community Action Agency, HRDC is responding to the need for more affordable housing by assisting customers all along the housing continuum. The housing continuum represents the range of housing types necessary in a community to meet the needs of its residents. At one end are emergency shelters, which provide shelter from sleeping outside for people without housing. On the other end are market rate ownership options. Today PHFA has awarded 322 recipients a total of $64.8 million in Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) funding. This money will boost housing and community development initiatives in all 67 counties. We anticipate this funding will impact Pennsylvania households through a variety of affordable housing efforts including: 🔴 169 new, affordable housing units will be created 🔴 1,181 affordable housing units will be preserved/rehabilitated 🔴 900 units rehabilitated/preserved through the funding of 4% tax credit projects 🔴 61 new single-family homes to be created 🔴 227 housing units will be created or rehabilitated specifically for households in danger of homelessness 🔴 316 potential new homebuyers to receive down payment/closing cost assistance 🔴 More than 6,900 families/households to receive housing counseling/financial education 🔴 More than 14,000 families/households to receive housing assistance (rent, utilities, transportation Learn more: https://lnkd.in/d7RAb8H
