📰 We’re grateful to Easy Reader News for covering The Moonstone, our #Homekey conversion in Redondo Beach. This project from Century Affordable Development, Inc. not only provides 20 permanent supportive homes for individuals transitioning out of homelessness but also strengthens the community by offering stability, security, and renewed opportunity for all residents. As Century Case Manager Richard Pacheco shared, “The Moonstone is more than housing; it’s a critical step in building a stable and fulfilling life.” Jason Newton, a resident who is pursuing his business degree while working full-time, added, “Having a place to call my own has given me the chance to focus on my future.” Thank you, Easy Reader, for spotlighting stories like these and helping spread awareness of the positive, community-wide impact that permanent #supportivehousing can have. 📖 Read the full story: https://bit.ly/4e8VTeb #affordablehousing #housingdevelopment #RedondoBeach #SouthBay

We finance, build, and operate exceptional affordable housing to promote dignity, health, and economic independence.
About us
Century Housing is committed to creating affordable housing. As a network of nonprofit affiliates, we finance, develop, and manage exceptional affordable housing communities across California. From our start in 1995, Century Housing Corporation has grown into a leading Community Development Financial Institution providing end-to-end financing for affordable and workforce housing. We have invested more than $2.8 billion in communities throughout California, creating more than 58,000 affordable and workforce homes. Century also serves as a skilled partner with developers, government agencies, and other CDFIs in pioneering innovative financing programs. We also develop and manage affordable and supportive housing through affiliates such as Century Affordable Development, Inc., Century Oasis Residential Services, and Century Villages at Cabrillo, our award-winning, 27-acre supportive housing community with more than 1,500 residents in Long Beach. We are a principal developer with our partners on master-planned communities including the West LA VA North campus and Rancho San Pedro. Century was born from one of the largest public works projects in U.S. history. In 1972, planning began on the Century (105) Freeway, a major thoroughfare that would connect the Los Angeles Airport to the city of Norwalk. Residents affected by the proposed freeway fought the construction and filed litigation seeking to temporarily halt construction. In 1979, a solution was reached: the creation of the Century Freeway Housing Program. This state agency was tasked with creating nearly 4,000 units of affordable housing for those displaced by the freeway's construction along with providing minority and female employment opportunities. Having successfully exceeded its initial housing development goal, the agency was privatized and renamed as Century Housing Corporation. Century remains the only known California state program converted into a private, nonprofit organization.

We’re proud to support our partner, Genesis LA, as they open applications for the Capacity Building Fund! As part of the broader Inglewood Home Assist Fund program, Genesis LA is leading this initiative to empower small and emerging developers working to create affordable housing in the City of Inglewood. This fund places a special emphasis on supporting Inglewood-based, BIPOC-led developers, helping them strengthen their capacity and access to critical financing. The Capacity Building Fund will provide three key supports to five selected grantees over a 24-month period: · Technical assistance from Genesis LA and partners · Staffing capacity grants · Due diligence and feasibility assessment grants This is a fantastic opportunity to bolster local development efforts and ensure that more voices are shaping Inglewood’s future. Applications are open through November 15, 2024. 📅 Learn more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/e3QKHwz2 #AffordableHousing #CommunityDevelopment #CapacityBuilding #CDFI

At the Opportunity Finance Network's #OFN40 Conference, Century Housing Corporation was proud to co-host a CDFIs in Action Tour with the Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF), showcasing the vital role #CDFIs play in addressing Los Angeles' homelessness crisis. Together, we visited two permanent #supportivehousing developments near Downtown LA that demonstrate the power of community investment. Berendo Sage Apartments, developed by West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation (WHCHC), offers 42 units of supportive housing to families and individuals through financing from LIIF. The Quincy, developed by Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation and financed by Century, provides 54 apartments and onsite services from The People Concern for formerly unhoused seniors. These projects underscore how strategic #CDFI financing can bring much-needed #affordablehousing to LA’s communities. Many thanks to LIIF Director of Southern California Emma S. Chávez and Century Senior VP of Lending Josh Hamilton for leading our tour, as well as our partners from WHCHC, Wakeland, and The People Concern for welcoming our attendees and sharing their insights!

Last Thursday, we celebrated the opening of The Moonstone, our new Homekey project from Century Affordable Development, Inc., that brings 20 permanent supportive apartments to Redondo Beach. This community creates a crucial pathway to stable housing in the South Bay and offers a fresh start for residents, many of whom had previously stayed at the local pallet shelter. We are grateful to our speakers—including resident Jason Newton, LA County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, Redondo Beach (RB) Mayor Pro Tem Paige Kaluderovic, RB City Attorney Mike Webb, and RB City Councilmember Nils Nehrenheim—who highlighted the power of collaboration in addressing homelessness. Special thanks to all of our partners from the City of Redondo Beach, County of Los Angeles, and California Department of Housing & Community Development. This milestone reflects our shared dedication to building a stronger community and brighter futures for our residents. In honor of Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month, we are proud to recognize Development Manager Victor A. Casanova, who joined Century earlier this year. Growing up in Compton and Lynwood, Victor experienced firsthand the contrasts between his neighborhoods and other parts of Los Angeles County: "Dignified housing was something we rarely experienced. This disparity sparked a deep curiosity in me about the built environment and why my community lacked the same opportunities seen elsewhere." As his career evolved, Victor grew determined to bring dignified, affordable housing to communities like his own: "My personal experiences have profoundly shaped my professional journey, fueling my passion to ensure others don’t face the same challenges I did." Victor is deeply committed to creating housing solutions that provide stability, security, and a sense of pride for residents: "Seeing the transformative power of affordable housing in people’s lives is incredibly rewarding. It is about more than just providing shelter; it is about building communities where families can flourish, children can grow up with a sense of security, and individuals can pursue their dreams without the constant worry of housing instability." Thank you, Victor, for your passion for #affordablehousing and the meaningful impact you make at Century! #HispanicHeritageMonth #LatinoHeritageMonth #LatinxHeritageMonth

We are proud to recognize Abigail Cruz, a property manager with Century since 2015, this Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month. Currently managing Woodbridge Apartments, Abigail works closely with a primarily Hispanic community, many of whom have limited English fluency. As a first-generation Latina, she has found a personal and cultural connection with her residents that makes her work even more fulfilling. Abigail’s journey into property management began unexpectedly after her Army discharge while she was pursuing her BA degree. What started as a temporary summer job soon developed into a passion for affordable housing and its impact on families: "I didn’t know anything about affordable housing, VASH, or HUD at first, but I caught on quickly. The more I learned, the more I realized how much this work matters to families in need." Motivated by a desire to serve Veterans and make a difference, Abigail found her place at Century Villages at Cabrillo, where she connected deeply with Century’s mission: "I’m one of the lucky ones—I had the support of family and friends when I left the Army, but many of our Veterans don’t have that. I feel like we provide a bit of the support they need." Thank you, Abigail, for your dedication to our residents and for your commitment to creating lasting change in the affordable housing space! #HispanicHeritageMonth #LatinoHeritageMonth #LatinxHeritageMonth
