Natural compounds in whole Asparagopsis seaweed prevent methane gas from being formed during the digestive process of ruminant animals, a fact first demonstrated by researchers in Australia. Dried, whole Asparagopsis has been shown to significantly reduce enteric methane emissions in beef cattle and dairy cows as well as sheep, with no adverse effects to livestock, their products, or the environment. Besides reducing methane, Asparagopsis also has been shown to have additional benefits, such as reduced loss of feed energy to enteric fermentation. Athian recently announced the first sale of verified carbon credits in the groundbreaking livestock carbon insetting marketplace to Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), the largest U.S. milk marketing cooperative. Texas dairy farmer Jasper DeVos utilized Athian’s first accepted protocol to generate carbon credits by reducing enteric methane and improving feed utilization through the use of an innovative feed management product and quantification tool from Elanco Animal Health, resulting in nearly 1,150 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) reduction. If the entire U.S. dairy industry leveraged this same intervention, it could avoid 4.7 million metric tons of CO2e emissions annually from enteric, feed and manure emissions, accelerating the impact animal agriculture has in being part of the climate solution. 🌍 Tackling Climate Change Challenges in Agriculture with Feed Additives 🌍 As we face the escalating challenges of climate change, marked by increasing greenhouse gas emissions, the agricultural sector is feeling the impact. The changing climate significantly affects agroecosystems, influencing the life cycle of fungi. This leads to a shift in their geographical distribution and patterns of mycotoxin occurrence in crops. 🔍 Why are animal feed additives the best strategy in this scenario? Feed additives play a crucial role in safeguarding animal health against these emerging risks. Here's why: 🔹 Counteracting Mycotoxins: Climate-induced changes in fungal behavior have made mycotoxins more prevalent. High-quality feed additives effectively neutralize these toxins, protecting livestock health. 🔹 Enhancing Resistance: By incorporating superior feed additives into animal diets, we can bolster their resistance to mycotoxins, ensuring healthier livestock despite the evolving environmental challenges. In an era where the impacts of climate change are undeniable, turning to reliable solutions like feed additives is not just a choice, but a necessity for maintaining the health and wellbeing of our animals. Let's embrace innovative strategies to protect our livestock and ensure a sustainable future for agriculture. #ClimateChange #Agriculture #Sustainability #AnimalHealth #FeedAdditives #Mycotoxins #EnvironmentalImpact

🌍🐄 Tackling Toxins in Cattle from free range grazing As cattle roam freely across borders, they often encounter a range of environmental contaminants. These toxins, including pesticides, heavy metals, and various environmental contaminants; ingested, can bioaccumulate in cattle tissues, posing risks to animal and human health and food safety. 🥩 Implications for Humans: Food Safety Risks: Toxins in meat and dairy products can affect human health, causing neurological disorders and CANCERS. 🔍 Key Concerns: Feed & Water Contamination: Exposure to pesticides, mycotoxins, and heavy metals. Soil Contamination: Persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals from industrial activities. 🚨 Health Impacts: Acute Toxicity: Immediate effects like poisoning and respiratory distress. Chronic Toxicity: Long-term exposure leading to organ damage and growth issues. 🔧 Preventative Measures: Ranching: Controlled raising of livestock under an intensive management system. Quality Control: Regular testing of feed and water encountered in the grazing routes. Environmental Protection: Mitigating industrial emissions and remediating contaminated areas. Fit for Slaughter Test: To forestall transfer of toxins to humans, veterinary official must certify that cattle's for meat are fit to be slaughtered. An example of this, is meat from meat247.ng which is sourced from certified fit for slaughter livestock. By addressing these issues, we can ensure healthier livestock and safer food products. Click here if you want to learn more about our Citrus extract to reduce the environmental footprint of livestock production! Our Life cycle assessment performed on Nor-Spice AB resulted in the improvement of many indicators such as climate change, water deprivation, and land occupation. Good reading!
[ARTICLE] The use of citrus extract to mitigate the environmental footprint of pigs and broiler chicken production 🐓 Mitigating livestock’s environmental #footprint is an important pillar for building sustainable animal production. This could be done by improving feed efficiency of livestock animals. More efficient feed conversion reduces the demand for feed crops, leading to lower land use, water consumption, and energy input for feed production. Natural feed additives come up as an effective solution for improving feed efficiency and reducing animal production’s environmental footprint. 🍊 Nor-Spice® AB is a natural feed additive made from citrus extracts with #prebiotic properties, allowing to modulate the gut microbiota of animals, and therefore improve feed efficiency. 🔎 To know more about that solution, access https://lnkd.in/edecEaAF or send a message to our team at contact@norfeed.net #animalnutrition #feedadditives #botanicals #gut #microbiota

Today we are presenting FEASTS partner RESPECTfarms. 🐄 Under the umbrella of the FEASTS project, RESPECTfarms is actively engaging with #farmers across Europe. Through conversations, interviews, and roundtable discussions, they are integrating farmers' expectations, needs, and desires to co-create tailored solutions. 🤝 RESPECTfarms advocates for a decentralized production system of cultured meat, aiming to empower farmers and ensure their control over meat production in the future. Their objective is not only to assess opportunities and barriers for integrating cultured meat production on farms but also to give farmers a voice in shaping this emerging industry. In this initiative, RESPECTfarms aims to achieve three main objectives: 📌 Analyze existing agriculture business models to explore integration possibilities for cultured meat production. 📌 Identify the opportunities and challenges farmers face when considering cultured meat production. 📌 Develop speculative plans for how farmers might be able to implement such technology in the future. By actively involving farmers in this process, RESPECTfarms and the FEASTS project strive to foster a sustainable and equitable transition for stakeholders in Europe's livestock sector. #cultivatedmeat #cellag #alternativeproteins #foodsystem #resilience #foodsecurity
