I think most people have experienced a time where they felt excluded, and the effects can have major impacts on people's lives. It's great to see more of a focus on diversity and inclusion in the community and in workplaces. You go to work to do a job, and no one should feel excluded at their workplace. Aside from the fact that inclusion in Engineering is something we should be encouraging from a human perspective, given the reduction in the employment pool that many businesses in the sector are currently suffering inclusion and diversity is an open route to a whole new community of potential colleagues. The question is how to reach or accomodate people who would not normally see our trades as a route for them. Alongside opening the eyes of young people we must think about attracting people into a second career in Engineering through later life training and engagement with communities that we have not yet connected to. The people for us are out there, we just need to think wider than we have before.
