🍂 September Dreams in Autumn Colors 🍂 This month, let’s paint our dreams in vibrant autumn hues—and what better way to live out those dreams than through learning? Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Institute of Internal Auditors Botswana Conference, themed “Embracing Digitization for Enhanced Governance, Risk, & Compliance- Technology: A Catalyst for Success.” And what an electrifying and insightful experience it was! One key takeaway from nearly every speaker was how internal auditors need to embrace technology. As the world evolves, we can no longer rely solely on traditional sampling methods. Instead, tools like AI and Data Analytics are becoming essential. It's a reminder that continuous learning is the backbone of growth. One of our keynote speakers really drove this home: the habit of never stopping learning. It hit close to home for me, especially as I’ve completed several certifications this year. At times, I’ve wondered if I’m overcrowding my CV or spreading myself too thin. But this conference reminded me that each step forward is part of the bigger picture of personal and professional growth. A personal highlight for me was the session on “Cybersecurity Governance: 30 Questions the Board Should Ask.” It was eye-opening to hear how essential cybersecurity skills are, even for us in the internal audit department. We’re not just auditors anymore—we’re strategic partners in securing our organizations. Here’s to embracing technology, continuous learning, and staying ahead of the curve! 💡 #IIABConference #GovernanceRiskCompliance #InternalAudit #Cybersecurity #ContinuousLearning #Technology

I had the privilege of delivering a featured presentation at Planet Cyber Sec a few weeks ago in Orange County. The organizers asked me where I was going when they saw me leaving about 30 minutes before my presentation. I responded, tongue in cheek, that I needed to go stretch because I was about to knock it out of the park! 😁 That is the feeling I have today. I am excited to deliver a presentation to the Critical Infrastructure community that has gathered in Lake Charles, LA for the annual Critical Infrastructure Protection & Resilience North America conference. I plan to say a few smart things about " Strategic Governance of Cybersecurity and AI Risk" at my session this morning. I will share the notes later if I receive rousing applause instead of being booed off the stage! Here are the takeaways in advance: 1️⃣ The business judgement rule allows board directors to make mistakes, but the personal liability applied to directors in the Caremark case leaves no room for ignorance when risk oversight is a primary board responsibility. The duty of care demands that directors and management have sufficient competence to make good decisions. 2️⃣ The strategic plan is just a piece of paper. Management of strategy creates regular opportunities for improvement in the assessment, formulation, execution, and evaluation of objectives and initiatives that support strategic goals. 3️⃣ There is no out-of-the-box solution for AI. Models and interfaces require customization for each use case adopted in an organization. This requires time, training, and expertise. It also requires planning that limits speed of adoption for AI systems in a critical infrastructure environment where safety matters. Feedback is appreciated. Peace be with you.

Just wrapped up the insightful "Integrating ISO/IEC 27035 and ISO/IEC 42001: A Holistic Approach to AI Governance" webinar from PECB, Canada. It was a great opportunity to delve deeper into how these standards can be effectively implemented to ensure robust AI governance. Key takeaways: * Understanding the complementary roles of ISO/IEC 27035 (cybersecurity incident management) and ISO/IEC 42001 (information security management) in AI governance. * Developing a comprehensive framework that addresses both cybersecurity risks and AI-specific challenges. * Leveraging best practices to mitigate risks and ensure responsible AI development and deployment. I'm excited to apply these learnings to my professional work and contribute to building a more secure and ethical AI landscape. I'm also proud to have earned 1 CPD credit towards my professional development. Special thanks to Sir Jetmir Jashari for the updated certificate. #AI #cybersecurity #Governance #PECB

🌎 Balancing innovation with security in today's interconnected world! 🛡️🔍 The U.S. stands at a strategic crossroads with the integration of international talent in our research and innovation sectors. The proposal of an AI-powered triage tool represents a game-changing approach towards managing this delicate balance. This tool aims to assess international researchers effectively, ensuring they contribute to our technological landscape without compromising national security. Through my years of experience in technology and security, I've seen firsthand the pivotal role that global talent plays in driving innovation. Yet, the challenge of safeguarding sensitive information and technology cannot be overstated. The introduction of an unbiased, AI-driven triage tool can be a cornerstone in maintaining this balance. It could rapidly vet researchers, integrating them into the U.S. research ecosystem securely and impartially. Imagine a system where potential risks are identified swiftly without the bottleneck of traditional vetting processes. 🚀 This could not only fortify our defenses but also enhance the U.S.'s stance as a leader in global innovation. 💭 I invite you to think about the possibilities such a tool introduces: - How might AI improve your organization's security posture? - Could your sector benefit from a similar approach to integrating international talent? 📢 Let's discuss the future of talent integration and how we can navigate these complex challenges together! #Innovation #NationalSecurity #AITechnology #CyberSecurity #GlobalTalent
