Embracing the Evolution. As we embark on our professional journeys, we often start with a clear vision of where we want to be. Yet, the reality is that careers are rarely straightforward. They twist, turn, and evolve in unexpected ways, influenced by different factors including experience, skills, interests, and your network. For example, I set out to determine I was going to be a chef, I went to college for 3 years to study catering and worked in hospitality. Then a friend was looking for a recruitment administrator and the rest is history. Workplace Experience! Has there been a time in your present or previous workplace where you were made to assume a position or higher-level responsibilities because the person left( it could be your line manager or a senior role in the department) while they look for a replacement? Whilst on the role, you were praised for your efforts, and tremendous performance😎 Naturally, you had expected to be promoted into that role because you knew you were doing well, even with the whole accolades from the Head of the Department. Atleast, they would change their mind from searching externally, so you thought. Boom😳! One day, you were told that a new line manager had been hired externally to fill the vacant position. The worst is that you were expected to help the new person to get a grasp of the role.🙄 Even at that, you still hoped for a compensation which you never got.🥺 How did you react, did you leave the company or you stayed and faced only your role? PAST EMPLOYEES TENURE ‼️‼️‼️ ➡️ Companies often check that if we are a job hopper 🤷🏻♂️ Let's check if they were able to maintain a good tenure for their employees ⁉️ ➡️Here's a simple trick 🪄 1⃣ Go to the company's LinkedIn page 2⃣ Click on people 👥 3⃣ You will get the list of past and present employees. 4⃣ Visit past employees profiles and check the tenure they worked in that company. 🏢 ➡️If there's a lot of people working for a short tenure 3-6 months or less than 1 year. 🌟 One of the most genuinely rewarding aspects of my role as Head of Human Resources is watching people grow and assisting them in their careers. When I joined Spirion in 2022, one of my first major tasks was to introduce a robust Career Management Framework (or career lattice). 🛠️ The framework I implemented would be made up of... Pathways 🛤️- a conscious grouping of like roles into tracks that share core functional characteristics. Levels 📈- defined by the upward steps an individual would take as new knowledge and skills are gained through a natural progression in a career field. Designations 🏷️ - used to describe associations between the pathways, the levels, sub-categories, and functions of the positions. I am proud of the work we did and the impact it has had over the last year and a half on our team and our culture. 💼 It guides our decision-making, offers a clear understanding of the skills and competences required for roles, helps discover potential within the teams... I can't say it's perfect, it can always be improved, but it's ours and is working! When it functions correctly, the benefits are big pay-offs... Structured growth, employee engagement, talent retention, and fair and transparent processes based on merit. 🎯 These work together to create a truly inclusive workplace culture!👏 Success is not guaranteed, and there is no secret formula to mastery. Yet, our recent promotions highlight the success of this approach. Watching our employees advance their careers is incredibly fulfilling and a true testament to their hard work and dedication.
