On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet citizen, made history as the first human to journey into space. This groundbreaking event marked the beginning of space exploration for the benefit of all humanity. On April 7, 2011, the General Assembly declared April 12 as the International Day of Human Space Flight 'to celebrate each year at the international level the beginning of the space era for mankind, reaffirming the important contribution of space science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals and increasing the well-being of states and peoples, as well as ensuring the realization of their aspiration to maintain outer space for peaceful purposes.' From Gagarin's historic flight to the deployment of modern and futuristic satellites, outer space has added a new dimension to humanity's existence. How can we continue to utilize the unique benefits of outer space to continuously improve the well-being of all humankind?

𝐃𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤: 𝘈 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘢 𝘚𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘵 𝘒𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘬𝘦! This Space Warfighter Talk features a conversation between Greg Gillinger from the Space Force Association and Kristin B., a China space expert at the China Aerospace Studies Institute (CASI). Kristin discusses her background and expertise in researching China's space program. She emphasizes the value of unclassified research and how it can complement classified information. She also highlights the importance of transparency in attributing behaviors in space. The conversation then dives into details about China's space program. Kristin talks about a specific Chinese satellite, SJ-17, which maneuvered close to foreign satellites, including those from Russia and India. She argues that this close approach could signify that China is developing counter-space capabilities. The video concludes with Kristen mentioning resources on the CASI website, including a translated version of a PLA training manual on space operations. 🚀 The First Man in Space 🌌 On April 12, 1961, humanity witnessed a historic moment that transcended boundaries and ignited the imagination of millions worldwide. Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet cosmonaut, became the first human to journey into outer space, forever etching his name into history. In a tiny spacecraft named Vostok 1, Gagarin embarked on a daring mission that would redefine our understanding of what it means to explore the cosmos. His journey lasted just 108 minutes, yet its impact reverberated far beyond the confines of Earth's atmosphere. As Vostok 1 soared into the heavens, Gagarin's courage and determination inspired generations, symbolizing the triumph of human ingenuity over the vast expanse of the unknown. His historic flight marked a pivotal moment in the Space Race, showcasing the remarkable capabilities of Soviet space technology and propelling humanity towards new frontiers. Gagarin's journey was not merely a feat of engineering; it was a testament to the unyielding spirit of exploration that resides within us all. His iconic words, "Poyekhali!" ("Let's go!"), echoed across the cosmos, encapsulating the boundless ambition and unwavering resolve of those who dare to reach for the stars. #YuriGagarin #FirstManInSpace #SpaceExploration #HumanAchievement #Legacy #Inspiration

Since the first steps mankind took on the Moon 55 years ago today, our understanding and use of space has grown by giant leaps and bounds. There are now many more players—both government and commercial—and an unprecedented access to space. Today, on the 55th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, is the perfect time to reflect on how far we've come for cislunar space and to consider where we go from here. The heightened interest in the Moon in recent years has triggered debates about the military utility of the celestial body and the area around it. The following two essays offer contrasting views on the military importance of the Moon and cislunar space. #apollo11 #moonlanding #cislunarspace

On Khaleej Mag, I recently wrote about the trend of space militarization and space wars in the light of recent events. "The Pentagon’s latest actions underscore this trend. With powers like China and Russia making tremendous advances in space-based operations, the United States is responding by creating extensive capabilities for potential space warfare. This entails deploying a new generation of ground and space-based technologies to protect American satellites and, if necessary, destroy enemy spacecraft" Global dialogue and space preservation are the way forward. "This vision of space as holy and free of violence highlights the urgent need for global dialogue and solid efforts to prevent space militarization." #SpaceSustainability #SpaceDiplomacy #SpaceWarfare

Russia Reaching Beyond the Stars: The Towering Human Impact of 400,000 Lost Souls. In a striking comparison that sheds light on the magnitude of human life and our place in the cosmos, let's consider the recent news of the 400,000 Russian soldiers lost. This number, staggering and somber, offers a perspective that is both humbling and profound. To visualize this, imagine if each of these soldiers were standing on the other's shoulders. The resulting stack would astonishingly reach a height of about 700,000 meters. This is not just beyond the Kármán line, which marks the boundary of space at 100,000 meters but also surpasses the orbit of the International Space Station, which circles the Earth at approximately 420 kilometers above the surface. This metaphor serves as a stark reminder of the vastness of space and the fragility of human life. The distance these soldiers would cover, stacked one atop the other, extends far beyond our earthly bounds, into the realm of stars and satellites. It's a humbling comparison that underscores the sheer scale of the loss and the importance of each human life within the vast expanse of our universe.

For the next few decades, the most important of these for the future of space exploration is Earth Space, particularly low Earth orbit. 1. This is where our communications- and increasingly our military- satellites are placed. Control of this belt will give countries a huge military advantage across the Earth's surface. 2. "Who controls low Earth orbit controls near-Earth space. Who controls near-Earth space dominates Terra (Earth). Who dominates Terra determines the destiny of humankind" 3. In previous centuries, dominance of Terra relied on placing land and sea forces in strategic positions, jealously guarding sea routes and entry and exits of choke points such as the Straits of Gibraltar or Malacca Strait.

Beyond the security and defense necessities satellites and space represent there are major opportunities and a necessity for global collaboration. In the coming decade, I would consider the two main ones being the replacement of the International Space Agency and the development of settlements on the moon. Here too there is a need to work with friends and allies, as friendships on Earth tend to extend to space. This is why we see geopolitics moving toward what is now called “astropolitics. https://lnkd.in/eBjTez_W
