🌟 International Women's Day 2024 🌟 Yesterday after having spent the last few days listening to some amazing women speak at Smart Energy 2024 on climate change and the urgency needed convert to smarter energy systems, the theme for this years *IWD Invest in women: Accelerate progress* was not lost on me. It was at the end of the conference I was reminded of the remarkable Barangaroo, an influential Aboriginal woman from the Eora nation. In a time of immense challenge and change during the late 18th century colonisation of Australia, Barangaroo exemplified strength, resilience, and leadership. As a pivotal figure in early Australian history, Barangaroo played a crucial role in navigating the complex interactions between her people and British settlers. Her diplomatic efforts (though at the time may have been a little controversial for some) and unwavering advocacy for her community showcased her commitment to protecting the interests and rights of Indigenous peoples. It is also reasonable to consider her as an environmental steward in a broader context. Barangaroo, like many First Nations custodians, undoubtedly possessed a profound understanding of the local ecosystem and the importance of preserving it for future generations. With a holistic view of the environment, recognising the interconnectedness of all living things and the need to maintain balance and harmony with nature. Women who are modern Barangaroo’s, using diplomatic endeavours, resilience in the face of adversity, and commitment to their values, continue to inspire me. Standing tall in the face of upheaval, demonstrating the enduring strength and spirit of women. Investment in them, in women and girls, in every way, will accelerate progress and in turn bring holistic benefits for generations to come. #IWD2024 #InvestInWomen #IndigenousWomen #Barangaroo #Leadership #Diversity #Inclusion #Resilience #Climate

🌍The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all" by 2030. These goals were set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030. They cover a broad range of social and economic development issues including poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender equality, water, sanitation, energy, urbanization, environment, and social justice. 🌍Linking the SDGs to various sectors and industries is critical for their success. For example, the technology sector, including companies like LinkedIn, plays a significant role in advancing these goals. LinkedIn, as a professional networking platform, can contribute to several SDGs such as Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10). By facilitating job opportunities, professional development, and networking, LinkedIn can help improve employment rates and support economic growth, which are key aspects of these goals. Moreover, LinkedIn's global reach and data can offer insights into labor market trends, skill gaps, and the impact of digital transformation on jobs, thus contributing to informed policy-making and strategies aligned with the SDGs. #qbsmscbloggers

Shout out if you are in Nairobi for the 2X Global Summit. I am particularly keen to discuss on topics ranging from: 1. The intersection of gender, climate, and clean energy; and how it can promote WEE. 2. The economic impact of time-savings brought by the introduction of clean energy solutions for women. 3. Use cases where women interact with electric mobility. 4. Climate-smart sectors that provide the best opportunity to promote women's livelihoods. I am also keen to discuss and learn more about how organisations gender mainstream their deal/transaction design to promote gender outcomes.

Women in MENA are taking over the green economy? The MENA region is facing environmental challenges. Despite gender inequality (only 19% of women are employed), ladies in MENA are becoming leaders in the green movement. Companies led by women receive higher environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ratings. For example, Salma Bougarrani, co-founder and CEO of GREEN WATECH in Morocco, specializes in applying energy-efficient wastewater treatment methods, addressing the region's water scarcity issue. Technological advancements, the development of social entrepreneurship and impact investing, and changing cultural norms are empowering women. However, challenges remain, including limited access to finance and gender bias. Addressing these challenges requires targeted investment mechanisms, mentorship programs, skills development initiatives, and combating gender stereotypes. Government support for initiatives such as Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and the UAE's Green Agenda create an enabling environment for women's entrepreneurship. UNDP promotes gender equality programs in the environmental sector. I am inspired by the stories of these women. It is heartening to see that government and organizations are also supporting the importance of women's leadership in addressing environmental issues.

Happy International Women's Day to all the amazing women out there. It was a day to celebrate our nature, talents, and gifts but also to reflect on our role in the pursuit of a sustainable and equitable future. Across the globe, women face numerous challenges in accessing clean water, reliable energy, and mitigating the impacts of climate change. However, they also possess enormous potential to drive transformative change in these areas. By investing in women, we can unlock this potential and propel our collective efforts towards a better world. The question remains, how do we do this❓ Firstly, investing in women's education and entrepreneurship is crucial. When women are equipped with knowledge and skills, they become powerful agents of change. By supporting women-led initiatives in water management, renewable energy, and climate resilience, we can tap into their innovative ideas and problem-solving abilities. Secondly, women are at the forefront of water management in many communities. By involving women in decision-making processes, we can ensure that water resources are managed sustainably and equitably. Women's intimate knowledge of local ecosystems and their roles as caregivers make them invaluable contributors to achieving water security and resilience. Thirdly, empowering women in the energy sector is vital for a transition towards clean and renewable energy sources. By providing training, financing, and leadership opportunities, we can increase women's representation in this sector and foster a more inclusive and sustainable energy future. Lastly, climate change affects women disproportionately, particularly in vulnerable communities. Investing in women's resilience and adaptation measures can help build stronger and more resilient communities. By supporting women-led climate initiatives, we can enhance their capacity to cope with climate-related challenges and ensure a more just and sustainable future for all. In conclusion, investing in women is not only a matter of gender equality but also a smart and strategic approach to addressing the water, energy, and climate change nexus. Let us recognize and harness the power of women to accelerate progress towards a more sustainable and resilient world. Together, we can create a future where women's voices are heard, their contributions valued, and our shared goals for water, energy, and climate change are achieved. #internationalwomensday2024 #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #sustainableenergy, #womenempowerment #womenentrepreneurs #womeninoviation #womeninenergy

🌍 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Report 2024: A Call to Action! The SDG Report 2024 emphasizes the pressing need for accelerated efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda. Currently, only 17% of the SDG targets are on track, with challenges such as climate chaos, conflicts, and rising inequality demanding immediate attention. While significant progress has been made in reducing child mortality, improving access to clean water, sanitation, and energy, as well as advancing more equitable mobile broadband access, obstacles persist in poverty reduction, climate action, and gender equality. It's time for: - Peace: Resolving conflicts through diplomacy - Solidarity: Providing increased financial support to developing nations - Action: Making substantial investments in critical sectors like food, energy, and digital connectivity Let's join forces to reignite progress and work towards a more sustainable and inclusive future! 🌱 #SDGs #2030Agenda #ClimateAction
