WHY ARE SOME PERFUMES MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHERS? (Part 2.2) THE INGREDIENTS You can check here for my previous post on the first aspect of ingredients: THE SOURCE, https://lnkd.in/djMVmg4t The second aspect: THE QUALITY. If, for instance a perfumer insists on using Bulgarian rose over Taif rose, then the cost will be higher due to its superior quality. On the contrary, one can opt for synthetic ingredients to lower both the quality and cost. If you've ever wondered why one fragrance is priced significantly higher than another, it often boils down to the quality of ingredient. It's likely that expensive fragrances incorporate more amount of natural ingredients, whereas the cheaper ones may rely more on synthetic components. The third aspect, THE QUANTITY, is closely linked to both Source and Quality. The greater the concentration of rare natural oils in a perfume, the higher the cost. Perfumes are classified by concentration levels: Cologne (2-4% fragrance oil), Eau de Toilette (5-15%), Eau de Parfum (15-20%), and Parfum (20-40%). Generally, Eau de Parfum (EDP) fragrances are more expensive than Eau de Toilette (EDT) due to their higher concentration. The fourth aspect, THE COMPLEXITY is also linked to both the Source of ingredients and their Quality. When rare natural ingredients are combined, the higher the cost of the fragrance. Some fragrances are termed linear or simple, meaning they're composed of a few ingredients from the same fragrance family, creating a consistent scent from start to finish. Others, however, are more complex or layered, with many different ingredients from different fragrance families, creating a changing scent experience. The aim is to create a fragrance that changes as you wear it, starting with a fresh, cool scent and evolving into a warm, sensual aroma. Usually, fragrances that change more or have more ingredients cost more, but sometimes even linear fragrances with just a few ingredients can be expensive. Occasionally, luxury scents may also contain synthetic ingredients that are difficult or expensive to produce. This is the final part on Perfume Ingredients, my next post in this series on factors that influence the price of perfumes will be on "THE AVAILABILITY OR EXCLUSIVITY OF THE FRAGRANCE".
