Did you know that Volvo is the second largest employer in Sweden (after the post office)? Here comes more on Sweden’s industrial back-bone. If you zoom out to a global perspective then the Swedish company with the most staff is the security firm Securitas - with a whopping 276 000 employees. That’s almost twice as much as H&M (the runner-up). H&M has also given rise to Sweden’s wealthiest person – with about 15 billion dollars. Another worthy mention is the world’s largest lock-maker - Assa Abloy. The historic base of country's industry is the ore reserves – often compared to Norway’s oil (did you know that 60% of Europe’s iron reserves and 90% of its extraction comes from Sweden?). The industry is still going strong and the largest discovery of rare metals in Europe was made just last year. If this article was written in the 1970’s then shipbuilding would have been the main focus – but those days are long gone. The government managed to extend the life of the industry for a couple of years by (controversially) pumping in torrents of state-money.

We are proud to have contributed to the development of a series of documents intended to optimize the integration of Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) into human rights due diligence as part of our engagement in the Sector Dialogue Automotive Industry initiated by the Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales. 🍃   Sustainability is at the heart of our strategy at Aurubis. As a participant at the The Copper Mark we promote sustainable supply chains for our industry and just last month we signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement on responsible metal production with CODELCO – Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile.
