“What even are tapas?” One of the most common questions I get in my sessions is what is the origin of tapas. Well, the term "tapas" is believed to have originated from the Spanish verb "tapar," meaning "to cover." Legend has it that this tradition began in Andalusia during the 13th century when tavern owners started serving small plates of food with drinks. These plates were often topped with slices of bread or meat to prevent insects from getting into the beverages. As time passed, the practice evolved, and tapas became an integral part of Spanish culinary culture. There are other several other theories but regardless of their exact origins, tapas have evolved into a diverse culinary tradition, with countless varieties ranging from simple olives and cheese to elaborate seafood dishes and miniature versions of traditional Spanish cuisine. One of the elements for a good tapa is to use top quality products. With a few choice ingredients and a little creativity the result can be spectacular. This simplicity also makes tapas a great option to make in our team-building activities. Teams can come up with their own version of a classic tapa or maybe even invent with something completely original. ¡Viva la tapa!
