This article does a nice job of weighing the benefits and risks of trading personal data for convenience. We’ve gone from using paper tickets, to downloading tickets to our Apple wallet, to now being able to use our faces as entry to events (which makes it four times faster than entering an arena through security). For this program, Major League Baseball claims that “teams aren't using fans' faces or their biometric data for security or any purpose other than stadium access, and they aren't selling that data to any other companies.” Will that claim hold up? Or will we have another James Dolan situation, akin to the Knicks owner banning people he didn’t like from Madison Square Garden based on facial recognition technology? What if there is video of a fan shouting at a player, and the league uses the database to locate the fan and ban them from buying tickets again? Lots of ways to imagine potential harm. It comes down to fans placing trust in MLB to use the data as intended and protect it from further dissemination. https://lnkd.in/g4TP-YPr

Example: Picture a cybersecurity startup suddenly launching gaming consoles. Their corporate clients would question their focus, while gamers might doubt the quality of their gaming products.
