April is Child Abuse Prevention Month! Please donate to Small Talk Children’s Advocacy Center to help local children find hope and healing, and bring abusers to justice. https://lnkd.in/gUa_UreZ Whether you know it or not, you are surrounded by brave survivors of child sexual abuse. CSA is a public health epidemic (1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys) with long-term consequences for individuals that ripple out into communities. Abusers thrive when good people decide it’s none of their business. But as a trained mandated reporter and former foster care worker, I can tell you it is very much my business and #ItsYourBusiness too. Abusers don't look or act a certain way, and they're not the "stranger in a van." 91% of victims know their abuser. Learn the signs so you're not operating on assumptions. Then, if you see or suspect child abuse, report it. You may be the only one who will.

"We believe everyone has the right to a life free of violence." That is our mission, and October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. How can we continue to move forward for our clients? One way is educating the community about prevention and available services. Services: The Center for Violence Prevention offers services for domestic violence victims through The Beacon program. The Beacon offers free supportive services to aid in recovery, healing and justice for victims of interpersonal violence. We can assist with emergency shelter, an exit safety plan, law enforcement advocacy, therapy for you and your children, case management, and other resources and referrals that can help along the way. Prevention: Did you know that law enforcement can utilize a lethality assessment tool when responding to domestic violence calls? This evaluation tool helps determine when victims are at a higher risk for serious injury or death. Intervention is then provided to prevent violence, leading to safety or even saving the life of a potential victim. Community: You can support our programs by volunteering or by making a donation on our website at msc4vp.org. We also encourage you to follow and like our social media accounts to help spread the word about what we have to offer for those in need. *Intimate partner violence alone affects more than 12 million people every year, according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. Educate, support, and stay aware of the reality of domestic violence. #Wherehealingbegins #msc4vp #DomesticViolence

April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month. As your next District Attorney, I'm deeply committed to raising awareness about sexual assault every day, but Sexual Assault Awareness Month provides a crucial opportunity to amplify our efforts. It's a time to educate, advocate, and support survivors while working to dismantle systems that perpetuate sexual violence and hold offenders accountable. Sadly, it's likely that each of us knows someone who has been impacted by sexual violence; yet, it is one of the most underreported crimes. Every survivor deserves to be heard, believed, and supported. Let's break the silence, dismantle the stigma, and empower survivors to seek justice and healing. Let's all take action by supporting local organizations like the SAVA - Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Center and ChildSafe that provide critical services to survivors. Whether it's volunteering, donating, or spreading awareness, every effort makes a difference in the journey towards healing and justice. Together, let's create a community where sexual assault is not tolerated, where consent is respected, and where every individual feels safe and valued. 🩵 #SAAM #SupportSurvivors #EndSexualViolence

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜 We are honored to support our incredible clients on the front lines of addressing domestic violence. Organizations like the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Prudence Crandall Center, Inc., Interval House, Susan B. Anthony Project, and Women's Resource Center work tirelessly to help survivors escape abuse. DV organizations provide critical resources like emergency shelter, legal advocacy, counseling, and long-term support to help survivors rebuild their lives. However, many of these life-saving programs are at risk due to impending major cuts to VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) funding. Now, more than ever, these organizations need our support to continue their essential work with survivors. Domestic violence impacts individuals and families across every community. Let’s raise awareness, advocate for survivors, and push for the funding and resources needed to break the cycle of abuse. #DVAM2024 #EndDV #SupportSurvivors #NonprofitImpact #BreakTheCycle

Today is National Be Someone Day. No, it’s not what you think. It’s better! Today is all about making a difference in the life of a vulnerable child. It is all about protecting children. Project Harmony Child Advocacy Center, the organization that created this day, stated the goal is to end child abuse and neglect. The organization poses a challenge to each of us. The challenge is you take 10 seconds out of your day, today and every day, to make a difference in the life of a child. Use those ten second to heighten awareness to potential child abuse and neglect. If you see abuse or neglect, do something about it. Report what you see and know to authorities who can help the child. Unfortunately, child abuse and neglect are so common that you very well could find it during those ten seconds.
