Board member, contributor, scribbler, speaker. Sometimes blunt. Not polishing my credentials for any more govt roles.
I never fail to be proud of being a Trustee of the THE RADNORSHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST LIMITED We're tiny but mighty. Actually we're tiny but b*llsy too. Important difference. And because Boards hold the purse strings and the Comms and Engagement policies, Board calibre is essential to success. Our Chair Sue Holden leads an exceptionally well run Board - where we efficiently dot i's and cross t's instead of wasting time unpicking poorly made decisions. Speed over haste wins the race every time. We work with anyone who wants to work with us and uphold our values. We don't waste time trying to convert everyone or progress at the pace of the slowest or most recalcitrant. We'll have a coffee with anyone and everyone. But our priorities and our values are our own - they aren't for sale. I know that many Wildlife Trust leadership staff around the country know what needs to be done. And it isn't keeping quiet. More Trust Boards must become expert Trustees and learn how to expertly delegate operational decisions to the expert and experienced staff they hired. We all have our roles to play. We have bags of talent around the UK network, staff and Trustees. But like gifted footballers, can we work together in our separate roles as gifted teams scoring goals for wildlife and standing up against the forces ranged against it? Not easy.
THE RADNORSHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST LIMITED is very pleased to welcome Learn Outdoors to its corporate membership. We're looking forward to shared learning and developing opportunities for young people to access the outdoors. Interested in joining the growing group of businesses we work with? Community engagement is very key in conservation
Wildlife Biologists and Conservation Trainer || CEO at CHD Conservation Kenya. Founder at Kang4Nature. Future Rising Fellow @GirlRising. Thought Leader
One thing I've learned about #community outreach programs are more likely to succeed when they adopt a people-centered. We have witnessed this first hand at CHD Conservation Kenya. This means that before initiating any action, the program staff should listen to the community members and understand their needs, perspectives, and preferences. Listening is a powerful tool for building trust, rapport, and collaboration with the community, as well as for identifying the most relevant and feasible solutions for the issues at hand. Pollinator Partnership’s Project Wingspan is actively recruiting volunteers in parts of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio! Project Wingspan is a multi-year landscape-scale project that enhances habitat that supports imperiled pollinator population including monarch butterflies and rusty-patched bumblebees among other wildlife. This program is made possible by a network of volunteers who receive training in plant identification and seed collection protocols. With the help of Pollinator Partnership staff and other Project Wingspan partners, these volunteers collect native wildflower seeds to be used at selected project sites to enhance native pollinator habitat. Show your support for these dedicated volunteers, like the ones below from Little River Wetlands Project, and learn how you can get involved with Project Wingspan at pollinator.org/wingspan These volunteers, alongside program partners, collect native wildflower seeds, which are then used in habitat creation and enhancement projects. We rely on your support to continue this vital work. Please consider donating to help us protect and enhance native habitats. This project is made possible through a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. #ProjectWingspan #PollinatorPartnership #Conservation #PollinatorConservation #MonarchButterfly #RustyPatchedBumblebee #RPBB #Pollinator #Pollinators #HabitatRestoration #PollinatorHabitat #VolunteerOpportunity #Volunteering

An interesting study highlighting important concerns regarding the conservancy model in Kenya. It underscores the need for a re-evaluation of the current approach to conservancies to address issues of land ownership inequality, exclusion of marginalized groups, local and international elite interests which lead to community displacement and disconnect, and the concentration of wealth among a select few. This calls for policymakers and conservation practitioners to consider more inclusive and equitable approaches that prioritize the interests and well-being of local communities while still achieving conservation goals. #Wildlife #Kenya #Conservancies
Kenya’s wildlife conservancies make old men rich, while making women and young people poorer
