Peak's media and communications trainer, Kim Skubris, spent the day with Gympie Regional Council teaching powerful communication techniques to the Comms team and Council managers with her Media and Communications Masterclass. . We were looking forward to hearing the spooky stories of the resident ghost, but they didn't make an appearance - or perhaps they did and just couldn't be seen! #localgovernment #queenslandlocalgovernment #medaitraining #publicspeaking #storytelling #RTO #training #upskilling #workplacetraining
Former broadcast journo specialising in crisis comms, message mastery, media training, storytelling & public speaking. An emcee & keynote speaker,Ambassador ActForKids & DanielMorcombeFoundation and LiteHaus Board member.
The resident ghost may not have made an appearance while we walked these halls dating back to 1890, but we certainly confronted some media and public speaking fears which haunt lovely people working with Gympie Regional Council. It was such a pleasure returning to one of my old journo stomping grounds with Shaun Smith Grizzly Bear Media to share with Tania Bailey and her Comms team and Council managers who were so welcoming and fun. Thank you for trusting me with your stories, which at times were deeply personal and moving. Helping people face their fears and become truly powerful communicators brings me much joy. It’s going to be a big year for Queensland local government and I’m looking forward to meeting new leaders post elections next month through my work with Peak Services. I’ve never been much of a political beast, but assisting good people passionate about their community is always a great day at the office. Happy Friday! www.kimskubris.com #mediatraining #ontheroad #communications #media #publicspeaking #community #localgovernment #council #storytelling #localcouncil #faceyourfears #oncamera #communication

Public rights of way are legally protected footpaths which allow anyone pass through private land so that they can access the countryside for leisure and recreation. Did you know that in the UK some of these paths may just disappear should they not be recorded by a local authority? The Countryside and Rights of Way Act (CROW) have encouraged local groups to record historic paths before the extended deadline of January 1 2031 in England which could see many paths lost to the public. The Ramblers’ Don’t Lose Your Way campaign has found over 49,000 miles of rights of way that could be lost if they are not added to the definitive map. At least they have a definitive map in England. The situation in Ireland is much more confusing (https://lnkd.in/eQnkjQPN) with two thirds of the local authorities despite being obligated to record public rights of way failing to do so adequately according to the regulator. The famous case of Lissadell House, Co. Sligo in 2013 might repeat itself where the public lost access to four routes across the land after a supreme court ruling. Protecting public access might best be served by centrally recording what we already have. https://lnkd.in/e3zNi3n7

Spotlight on Sussex County 🌟 Some exciting insights to come out of the CREATE Plan’s interactive asset map are findings about how each Delaware county shines when it comes to powering the creative economy. Here’s what the data tells us about Sussex County: 🔎 Sussex County's creative economy generated $1.1 billion in total output and supported 5,315 jobs in 2021. 🔎 Sussex County boasts 778 assets, representing 31% of Delaware’s total creative and cultural ecosystem. The most prominent creative economy sectors in the county are design & creative services, tourism, and visual arts & crafts. 🔎 With the majority of tourism assets located in this county, there is a strong geospatial correlation between the performing arts as well as natural and cultural heritage sectors. Thank You Joel Swanton for sharing!👍 This article significantly explains how the lack of a robust timber industry impacts local economies and people’s lives. Amending the 1994 NW Forest Plan could open opportunities for the industry. For me, this is long overdue issue. To move forward, we must find a balance that works for ecology and local economies. The Barred Owl 🦉 is beginning to replace the Northern Spotted Owl 🦉. It’s Nature’s way of survival of the fittest as defined by Darwin. This event, in itself, brings species variability to the forest landscape. Changes in species composition has been occurring for 100’s of millions of years on Earth 🌎. It’s not our place, as people, to stop this, but to embrace it. Another caveat to the issue, is the growing threat from increasing wildfires 🔥on both Westside and Eastside landscapes that are becoming increasingly drier with passing year. High-Density Westside and Eastside federal forest, particularly, USFS Lands pose the Greatest Threat from catastrophic fires. I believe that when we begin to aggressively balance the number of trees per acre, we will begin a proactive process that will enhance greater wildfire 🔥resilience and reduce annual catastrophic wildfires 🔥. To do this, the USFS needs to allow more forest products to be harvested annually. A robust USFS Green Sales Program would go a long ways to help to balance the needs of ecology with the needs of our economies. Probably preaching to the choir here. But if anyone wants an example of why timber communities distrust federal government... Skamania County: A Timber Community Trapped Between Federal Forces (HFHC) https://lnkd.in/gara_vM3
