What really matters….
Few things actually matter. This was a key insight Jocko Willink emphasized multiple times at the Council, our recent mountain leadership retreat. We often get hung up on things that don’t matter, expending so much energy and emotion unnecessarily. We need to be intentional about where we invest our energy. Our energy and must be aligned with what truly matters to accomplish our mission.

A true test of your leadership is how well the organization runs in your absence. If things fall apart when you take a break you simply haven't built the culture or systems that you absolutely need to grow and scale.
Don't let ego keep you from taking a break.

President and CEO at Graham Associates, Inc | Former Mayor of Arlington, Texas | Passionate about inspiring the next generation of leaders | Creating a sense of place for all.
It’s no surprise that I am a huge advocate of civic leadership; however, I may not have shared my “why” behind that passion in a while. 1.Strengthening Communities: Engaging in civic leadership allows us to shape and build a sense of place. We can address a variety of local challenges, whether it's improving public services, supporting education or fostering a more inclusive environment. 2.Building Trust and Reputation: Transparency is key. Companies foster trust and build a positive reputation through their values and actions. At Graham Associates, my partners and I are committed to supporting our community not just through engineering, but in our everyday actions. 3.Cultivating Future Leaders: What we do today impacts tomorrow in every way. At Graham Associates, Inc., my partners and I are mentoring the next generation of amazing civil engineers. But we want our team to also be amazing citizens. We must lead by example. We must be willing to take an active role in the community and lead by example.
