Tomorrow is Higher Education Day, and I am profoundly grateful for the opportunities and access I have through education and lifelong learning. My passion for education has been a driving force in my life, shaping who I am and guiding my journey. I believe that education is not just a path to knowledge but a gateway to endless possibilities and personal growth. It empowers us to dream bigger, think critically, and continually evolve.
In 2012, I designed the @nationalrugbyleague School to Work (S2W) Program, a collaborative initiative by NRL clubs to address key 'Closing the Gap' targets for Indigenous students in Western Sydney. The program aimed to halve the gap in Year 12 attainment and employment outcomes for Indigenous Australians. Supported by community leaders, the Rugby League family, and local role models, S2W advocates the importance of education, training, and employment for success.
Expanded over the years, the program now includes 11 NRL clubs and offers personalised career development plans, workshops, work experience, and post-graduation mentoring. This program is a testament to the power of education in transforming lives and creating opportunities. I've seen firsthand how access to quality education can change lives, open doors, and create a brighter future for individuals and communities.
