🎉 As the first West Midlands Creativity Week comes to end, we are delighted to announce the WMCA is backing ambitious plans for our region to become the home of the UK’s first National Centre for Musical Theatre. 🤝 Partnering with Arts Council England, Birmingham Hippodrome, Birmingham City Council and Birmingham City University, we will create a business case for a world-leading facility for the creation of new musicals in the UK. 🗣️ Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “We need to unleash and nurture the enormous talent we have in the West Midlands by providing the training opportunities local people need to land jobs in our growing creative sector.” He added: “Having a musical centre located here will help support that ambition.” 🚀 The ambitious project was announced by the Mayor and Jon Gilchrist, chief executive at Birmingham Hippodrome, at the first West Midlands Combined Authority Culture and Creative Ecologies Symposium. 👥 More than 100 people from the arts, culture and creative industry gathered at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, during West Midlands Creativity Week to hear from expert speakers, share best practice and plan for the future. The Mayor of the West Midlands set out his vision for the culture and creative industries, while @Jon Gilchrist, chief executive of the Birmingham Hippodrome, and Andrew Lovett OBE Director & Chief Executive at the Black Country Living Museum, were among the speakers. #WMCreativityweek #WMCA #ShapetheFuture

News and updates on how we're building a better connected, more prosperous, fairer, greener and healthier West Midlands.
About us
These are exciting times. Growth is strong and optimism is high. Our region is at the forefront of change and we are the place to be in the UK. West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has been created to deliver an ambitious plan to drive inclusive economic growth in the West Midlands region and build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous population. Made up of 18 local authorities and three Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and chaired by the Mayor of the West Midlands, WMCA is working together to move powers from Whitehall to the West Midlands and its locally elected politicians, who know this region best. This is a place determined to make its mark, and it is succeeding. The West Midlands’ magnificent past drives the region’s future. Its cities are built on industry and are now perfectly positioned to re-invent the industrial revolution for the future. This is a place built on social connection, collaboration and progress. Key priorities include transport; productivity and skills; housing and regeneration; industrial strategy; finance and investment and public service reform. We are a region on the move. Our time is now.

Our Thrive at Work programme has supported businesses and organisations across the West Midlands to ensure staff can access the help they need. With the theme of World Mental Health Day this year being workplace support, let our Thrive at Work delivery manager Laura Howard (She/Her) look at what you can do to help. With thanks to Nancy Towers, our senior policy officer for health and communities, for her support with this article.

On Thursday, we held a celebration at University Station with those who helped to make it all come together and those who keep the station safe and moving now. It was a chance to get feedback from passengers about how they use the station and how it’s impacted their journeys. With a cafe pop up Curbside Coffee Co, live music from the UoB Folk Society and performances from the Ballroom and Latin Dance Society, it was a great day! Thankyou to the performers and all of our Partners: University of Birmingham CROSS COUNTRY TRAINS LIMITED Network Rail West Midlands Rail Executive Transport for West Midlands University of Birmingham Guild of Students Volker Fitzpatrick Gear Up
